SCOUTING INDIANA (PA.)
First-year head coach Tom McConnell led Indiana (Pa.) to a blistering start. Following a season in which they made the NCAA Atlantic Regional semifinal, the Crimson Hawks were 11-1 to open the year with its only loss occurring at Seton Hill, when the Griffins scored the game-winner with four seconds to play to win 63-62. IUP won all of its games by double-digits. Since then, they have lost four games in a row. IUP has not topped 70 points in any of those losses after only failing to do so four times in its first 12 games. The Crimson Hawks 3-point shooting leads the PSAC, shooting 38.9 percentage from downtown, which is good for fifth in Division II. IUP's overall shooting percentage is 42.6 percent, sixth in the conference. Defensively, the Crimson Hawks are 27th in the nation in scoring defense and first in the conference, allowing just 60.0 ppg. They lead the PSAC in field goal percentage defense, limiting opposing teams to 37.5 percent. Lindsay Stamp leads the team in scoring (18.7 ppg). The Mercyhurst transfer paced the team last year in scoring (11.0 ppg). Stamp is a deadly 3-point shooter shooting 42.4 percent from deep, 27th in the nation and fourth in the PSAC. Lately the junior guard is averaging seven ppg and has failed to crack double-digits once over that stretch. Stamp did not start in the first game between Edinboro and Indiana (Pa.) last year, but led the Hawks in scoring in the final two games of the series, averaging 21.0 ppg. Ashley Stoner is second in scoring (10.7 ppg) and first in rebounding (6.8 rpg). Second team All-PSAC West selection Marita Mathe has played returned to the line-up, starting the last three games. The junior guard is averaging 8.7 ppg and leads the team with 3.1 apg. Leslie Stapleton is third on the team in scoring at 9.4 ppg. She has been coming off the bench lately and is averaging 12.0 ppg off the bench compared to 6.9 ppg as a starter.
