STORYLINEThe Edinboro women's basketball team travels to Clarion on Saturday, January 25. The Fighting Scots are riding a seven-game winning streak as they head into Tippin Gym to face a Golden Eagles squad that has lost three straight. Edinboro enters at 13-3 overall and 7-0 in the PSAC West while Clarion is 7-10 and 1-6, respectively. Edinboro was picked to finish second in the PSAC Western Division entering the year while Clarion was slated to finish sixth.

Key PlayersEdinboro#30 Valerie Majewski (G, 5-7, Jr.) – Majewski paces the team in points (16.7 ppg), assists (4.1 apg), and steals (2.3 spg). After two subpar games by her standards, combining for 25 points, she responded with 24 points against Indiana (Pa.). The junior guard is averaging 20.0 ppg during the Fighting Scots eight-game winning streak.
#13 Aignee' Freeland (F/C, 6-3, So.) – Coming off a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds against IUP, Freeland will have a difficult challenge having to defend Hannah Heeter. The sophomore forward will look to build off her strong performance against the Crimson Hawks.
Clarion#34 Hannah Heeter (F, 6-1, Jr.) – The two-sport athlete (also a star volleyball player) is having another incredible season, averaging 13.6 ppg and 11.8 rpg. In her career against Edinboro, she has had a double-double in three of the four games. The junior forward averages 16 ppg and 15.8 rpg versus the Scots.
#23 Emma Fickel (G, 5-8, Sr.) – Heeter had to miss the miss first five games of the season because Clarion made the NCAA Tournament in volleyball. During that time, Fickel led the team in scoring twice. She is second on the team with 13.2 ppg.
SCOUTING CLARIONClarion has flirted with a .500 record throughout the season. The Golden Eagles now come into this game having lost three straight games as they look for their first winning season 2009-10. Gie Parsons is in her 25th season as the head coach of Clarion and has surprassed 450 career wins (currently at 458). The Golden Eagles rank 12th in the PSAC in scoring offense (73.2) and also 12th in scoring defense (67.8). Clarion ranks last in the PSAC in free throw percentage (61.3 percent), just below of Edinboro (62.1 percent). Hannah Heeter paces the team in scoring (13.6 ppg), rebounding (11.8 rpg), and blocks (1.3 bpg). The junior forward missed the first five games of the season because she is a key player on the Clarion volleyball team, as well, which made the NCAA Tournament. Heeter is one of only three players in the PSAC averaging a double-double. The versatile athlete has been a thorn in Edinboro's side, averaging 16 ppg and 15.8 rpg against the Scots. She has had a double-double in seven of the 12 games she has played in. Heeter has received multiple honors throughout her career, including being named Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year for Division II volleyball. She was also named 2013 All-PSAC West first team, in volleyball and basketball, and second team in each sport in 2012. The Seneca, Pa. product is second in the conference in rebounding and blocks. Before Heeter's debut with the team, only two players led the Golden Eagles in scoring in multiple games. One was Emma Fickel who is averaging 13.2 ppg, second on the team. The other is Kelly Johnson, who is third on the team with 12.2 ppg. The freshman guard scored a Clarion season-high with 30 points against Pitt-Johnstown. Tania Holmes is the point guard for the Golden Eagles. The sophomore is averaging 8.5 ppg and ranks 12th in the PSAC with 3.4 apg.
SERIES HISTORY VS. THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Edinboro leads 45-29- Tied for the fourth most-played series in Edinboro history (75th installment). This is the second series in which Edinboro has played in the Diamond Anniversary in 2013-14. The other was California (Pa.).
Last Meeting - Edinboro 69, Clarion 60 (February 23, 2013)Edinboro had won six straight games in the series before Clarion won the first meeting in 2012-13, 56-55. The Fighting Scots avenged that loss in the second meeting as they never trailed in the 69-60 victory.
Kiara Brown was the game's leading scorer with 23 points and
Samantha Blazetic added 17 points. Hannah Heeter led Clarion with 16 points and 18 rebounds, the third time in four games she has reached a double-double against Edinboro. The Scots forced 21 turnovers while only turning it over 10 times.

Edinboro 66, Indiana (Pa.) 59Edinboro avoided a letdown following a victory against No. 2 Gannon, defeating Indiana (Pa.) 66-59.
Valerie Majewski led all scorers with 24 points while
Aignee' Freeland recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds, adding a career-high four blocks. Majewski scored 15 points in the in the second half, including five of the final nine points as Edinboro closed the game with a 9-2 run. The Crimson Hawks went on a 12-4 run to tie the game at 55-55. In the final three minutes, Edinboro outscored IUP 9-2, going 3-for-4 from the free throw line to ice the game. The Crimson Hawks shot 1-for-7 from the floor during that time.
Lauren Hippo was the only other Fighting Scot to reach double-digits, scoring 10 points off the bench.
Mercyhurst 66, Clarion 49Clarion shot a season-low 28.6 percent in Wednesday's to Mercyhurst, 66-49. Hannah Heeter provided 18 points and 17 rebounds while shooting 8-for-16 from the floor. The rest of the team combined to shoot 21.3 percent. It was the second time this season the Golden Eagles were held to under 50 points and also just the second time they made just one 3-pointer
