No. 22 Edinboro Looks to Defend Nine-Game Winning Streak Versus Davis & Elkins

STORYLINE
Davis & Elkins comes to McComb Fieldhouse for a non-conference tilt against the No. 22 Edinboro women's basketball team on Thursday, January 30. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 28 but was pushed back because the Senators had to make up a conference game on Tuesday. Each team comes into the game hot with the Fighting Scots on a nine-game winning streak and D&E on a four-game winning streak. Edinboro was picked second in the PSAC coming into the season while Davis & Elkins was picked to finish fourth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

#13 Aignee' Freeland (F/C, 6-3, So.) - Freeland has posted double-doubles in consecutive game and as a result was named PSAC West Athlete of the Week. The sophomore is averaging 23.5 ppg. and 11.5 rpg. over the last week.
 
#30 Valerie Majewski (G, 5-7, Jr.) - The reigning Women's Division II Bulletin Player of the Month, Majewski has rattled off ten straight games scoring in double-digits. For the month of January, she has averaged 19.3 ppg., 4.6 rpg., 4.0 apg., and 2.4 spg. while shooting 49.6 from the floor.

#42 Jorden Lykes (F, 5-10, Sr.) - Lykes paces the team in scoring (12.6 ppg.) and rebounding (7.0 rpg.). Lykes scored eight points and pulled down nine rebounds in last year's game between these two squads.
 
#5 Stephanie Wooten (G, 5-7, R-Fr.) - A team that has 11 players that average double-digit minutes, Wooten is arguably the most important off the bench. The redshirt freshman guard is second on the team in scoring (11.5 ppg.) and first in assists (3.3 apg.). Wooten is averaging 13.3 ppg. and 6.3 apg. over the last four games.

Davis & Elkins is currently third in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and is on a four-game winning streak following a 80-53 win over Alderson Broaddus. Head coach Jason Asbell runs one of the top 50 offenses in the nation that has clicked during the Senators winning streak. D&E is 43rd in Division II and second in the GMAC averaging 76.9 ppg. and are averaging 80.8 ppg. over the winning streak. The Senators average 7.0 3-pointers per game, second in the conference. Davis & Elkins is allowing 78.4 ppg. which ranks eighth out of nine teams in the GMAC. The Senators are a deep team that only has three players averaging over 20 minutes per game and none more than 24.4 minutes. Jorden Lykes leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 12.6 ppg. and 7.0 rpg. The senior forward scored 24 points in D&E's victory against Alderson Broaddus. Stephanie Wooten is second on the team in scoring with 11.5 ppg and leads the team in assists at 3.3 apg. Edinboro has yet to lose to Davis & Elkins and won 79-60 last year. Kiara Brown led all players with 26 points while Samantha Blazetic contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds. The game was tied 47-47 with 10 minutes to play before a 23-2 run by the Fighting Scots. Darche' Jackson scored 12 points in the game as well, all coming in the second half. The Scots limited the Senators to 17-for-53 (32.1 percent) from the floor while forcing 25 turnovers. Page Turner led D&E with 14 points while Jorden Lykes neared a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds.

Edinboro pushed its winning streak to nine games behind a strong performance from Aignee' Freeland on Saturday. Freeland finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds in the Fighting Scots 85-67 win. It was the sophomore forward's sixth double-double of the season. She also shot 10-for-13 from the floor (76.9 percent). The Scots led 39-35 at halftime and went on a 13-0 run to open the second half. They would not let the lead slip to any less than nine points the rest of the way. Freeland led four players in double figures, as Lauren Hippo had 19 points, Valerie Majewski 18, and Darche' Jackson 12.
 
Davis & Elkins 80, Alderson Broaddus 53
Davis & Elkins cruised to victory in a make-up game against Alderson Broaddus on Tuesday. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 22, but was postponed due to inclement weather. Jorden Lykes made all seven shots from the floor as she paced the team with 24 points. The Senators shot 50 percent from the floor while limiting the Battlers to 33.9 percent from the field.
