WICHITA, Ks. (January 31, 2014) – The Edinboro men's wheelchair team suffered a pair of losses on Friday in the first day of competition at the Wichita State Tournament. The morning game found coach
Jim Glatch's team rally from a late deficit against Southwest Minnesota State to send the game into overtime before falling 51-48. In the afternoon the Fighting Scots fell to Texas-Arlington 79-26.
Edinboro heads into Saturday's action with a 3-15 record. The Fighting Scots wrap up play at 9:00 a.m. against Alabama.
SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE 51, EDINBORO 48 otEdinboro trailed by seven points with three minutes to play at 41-34 before closing regulation on a 9-2 run.
Colm Williams got the comeback started with a 3-pointer and
Hollis Muenster scored the final two baskets to knot the score at 43-43. Muenster's basket at the buzzer sent the game into overtime. Unfortunately, Southwest Minnesota State took an early lead in overtime and still led by six points at 49-43 with 3:25 to play. A
Dwayne Murray basket and another Williams three pulled the Scots to within one at 49-48 with just over a minute left. Southwest Minnesota State clinched the win with a bucket with 44 seconds to play. Edinboro ha three more possessions, but two ended with missed shots and the third a turnover. Murray finished with a triple-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
Warner Quiroga added 10 points and Williams eight. Muenster totaled seven points and five rebounds.
TEXAS-ARLINGTON 79, EDINBORO 27 The Fighting Scots fell behind at the half 42-8 as UTA shot 65.5 percent from the floor (19 of 29) compared to 25.0 percent for Edinboro (4 of 16).
John Herndon and Murray paced the Boro with 10 points each. Edinboro was guilty of 26 turnovers and UTA shot 62.1 percent for the game.
