Edinboro Game Notes – Opening WeekendSTORYLINEThe Edinboro women's basketball opens its season at the Atlantic Region Challenge hosted by Millersville. The Fighting Scots play on Saturday against Chowan and then Sunday against Virginia-Wise. The Scots enjoyed a historic season last year, winning their third PSAC Championship in the last four years and advancing to the Elite Eight after claiming the Atlantic Regional Championship. Chowan went 12-16 last year while Virginia-Wise finished 10-18. Edinboro is seeking its 14th consecutive season-opening victory, last losing to Northern Kentucky in 2000 by a score of 91-60.

Laurel Lindsay opens the season with her eyes on moving up multiple career record ranks. The honorable mention WBCA All-American needs just 189 points this season to join the 1,000-point club. The graduate student guard/forward is also needs 50 assists to enter the top ten in school history.

Lauren Hippo will be making her 13
th straight start after starting the final 12 games of last season. The junior guard led Edinboro with 25 points in a 61-51 exhibition loss to Division I St. Bonaventure last Saturday. Hippo shot 48.9 percent on 3-pointers last year, the second-highest mark in PSAC history.
• 2014 WBCA All-American
Valerie Majewski is questionable for the opening game. The senior guard, who was also accorded 2014 PSAC West Athlete of the Year, started all 33 games for the Fighting Scots last year.
SCOUTING CHOWAN• The Hawks struggled at the end of last season finishing 12-16. The CIAA members lost five of their last six games and failed to score more than 57 points in any of those contests. Chowan averaged 63.5 points per game (ppg) while giving up 64.3 ppg. The Hawks held nearly a +3 rebounding margin (40.0 rpg. to 37.4 rpg allowed). They were among the worst in the nation in taking care of the ball, ranking 15th worst in the nation with 21.3 turnovers per game.
• 5'11" Alisha Mobley paced Chowan in multiple statistics last season. The preseason All-CIAA selection averaged 13.3 ppg. and 7.3 rpg. The junior forward opened last season with 22 points, her second-highest total of the season.
• Courtni Williams earned CIAA Rookie of the Year honors last season. The sophomore guard averaged 7.3 ppg., 3.0 rpg., and led the Hawks with 60 assists.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA-WISE• The Cavaliers won six of their first seven games to begin last season. A 101-65 trouncing at the hands of Glenville State led to UVa-Wise losing 17 of its last 21 games. The Cavaliers finished 10-18 and averaged 63.4 ppg. last year while giving up 69.7 ppg. They were outrebounded 40.9 to 37.5 on average and shot 38.4 percent from the field compared to opposing teams shooting 41.3 percent.
• Virginia-Wise returns four of its top five scorers and rebounders from last season. Makenzie Cluesman finished second on the team with 11.4 ppg. and was the top rebounder at 6.8 rpg. The junior guard also led the way with 72 assists.
• The Cavaliers only have four starters returning. Nobody else on the roster has started a game while at Virginia-Wise. They bring in multiple junior college transfers and also return Megan Smith, a sophomore forward who played in 14 games last year before an injury ended her season.
