Box Score (New/Sortable Format) MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 16, 2014) – The sixth-ranked Edinboro women's basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 78-65 win over Virginia-Wise on Sunday at Millersville's Pucillo Gymnasium. The game was part of the Atlantic Region Challenge. Virginia-Wise is now 0-2.
All five starters scored in double figures for Edinboro, who once again played without All-American
Valerie Majewski.
Hope Mancini led the way with 14 points, making 5 of 9 field goals, including 2 of 5 3-pointers. She added five steals.
Aignee' Freeland and
Laurel Lindsay added 12 points apiece. Freeland made 6 of 10 field goals and had five rebounds, while Lindsay dished out eight assists.
Lauren Hippo had 10 points and six rebounds, with
Anastasia Riabchenko contributing 10 points and five boards.
The Fighting Scots also received strong efforts from
Nicole Johnson and
Maggie Moore off the bench. Johnson was a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor and made both of her free throw attempts to finish with eight points. The sophomore added a team-high eight rebounds in 18 minutes. Moore, also a sophomore, added four points and five rebounds in 12 minutes.

th career victory. The Fighting Scots took control late in the first half thanks to a 7-0 run. Leading 19-16, Hippo drained a 3-pointer and Freeland followed with a layup. Johnson hit two free throws to close the run with 3:10 left in the half. Edinboro held the Cavaliers without a point for five-and-a-half minutes, from 7:58 to 2:28.
Leading 32-25 at the half, the Fighting Scots started the second half with a 19-7 run that left Virginia-Wise in a double-figure deficit the rest of the way. Hippo again hit a three to get it started, followed by a Mancini jumper for a 39-28 advantage. Lindsay's layup made it 41-28.
Virginia-Wise cut the margin to 11 with a layup by Kayla Carey, but another Lindsey layup and a free throw built the lead to 44-30. Mancini continued the burst with a steal and layup for a 46-30 lead with 17:12 left in the game.
The lead would eventually grow to 53-32. Following a Cavaliers' hoop, Moore scored on a layup and Mancini hit a 3-pointer. Johnson capped the outburst with a layup at the 12:42 mark. Virginia-Wise would never pull closer than the final margin.
Edinboro ended the day shooting 56.4 percent for the game (31 of 55), while limiting Virginia-Wise to 33.9 percent (21 of 62). The Cavaliers made 19 of 23 free throws, with Edinboro hitting 11 of 15 from the charity stripe.
The Scots held a 37-31 lead on the glass, although the Cavaliers had 21 offensive boards. The sloppy contest featured 24 turnovers by Edinboro and 17 by the Cavaliers. However, Edinboro scored 26 points off turnovers compared to 18 for Va.-Wise.
The Cavaliers featured a pair of double figure scorers. Blair Harding led all scorers with 20 points, with Taylor Williams adding 18.
Edinboro will return to action on Wednesday, November 19 opening PSAC action at Seton Hill.
