Fighting Scots Win Once at Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament

WHITEWATER, Wisc. (Nov. 23, 2014) – The Edinboro University wheelchair basketball team won once in four games while playing in the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Fighting Scots are now 5-9 after opening with a 58-30 win over Southwest Minnesota State before dropping their last three games to Texas-Arlington (68-40), Alabama (50-37), and Missouri (54-28).

EDINBORO 58, SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE 30  
The Fighting Scots led just 19-14 at half but outscored Southwest Minnesota State 39-16 over the final twenty minutes.  Edinboro would shoot 25.0 percent in the first half (7 of 28), but the Scots caught fire in the second half, shooting 51.6 percent (16 of 31). Meanwhile, Edinboro held Southwest Minnesota State to 26.3 percent for the game (15 of 57). The Scots also held a 42-21 rebounding advantage.  Mike Adams flirted with a triple double, finishing with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Derek Strickland was the leading scorer with 15 points (5 of 11 field goals, 5 of 7 free throws), with Isaiah Moore contributing 12 points. Blake Rush finished with 8 points and 10 rebounds.
 
TEXAS-ARLINGTON 68, EDINBORO 40  
Edinboro found itself trailing 35-19 at the half and couldn't rally against a hot-shooting Texas-Arlington team. UTA shot 60 percent for the game (33 of 55), including 65.4 percent in the first half (17 of 26). Edinboro committed 18 turnovers. Mike Adams led the Scots with 21 points, making 8 of 14 field goals, including a 3-pointer.  No other Scot scored more than five points, and the rest of the team made just 8 of 25 shots.  Derek Strickland and Ayuba Alli each finished with 5 rebounds.
 
ALABAMA 50, EDINBORO 37 
Edinboro trailed 29-21 at the half and was unable to rally in the second half while shooting just 36.8 percent (7 of 19). The Scots were also hurt by 15 turnovers and were outrebounded 28-20. Mike Adams led the Scots with 11 points, adding 6 assists. Blake Rush added 8 points and Derek Strickland had 7 points and 9 rebounds.
 
MISSOURI 54 , EDINBORO 28   
Once again the Boro faced a first half deficit, trailing 24-12 at the half.  The Scots shot just 32.6 percent for the game, including 28.6 percent in the first half (6 of 21). In addition, the Scots were 0-for-2 at the line and committed 14 turnovers to just three for Missouri. The Scots had four players with 6 points  –Blake Rush, Mike Adams, Ayuba Alli, and Isaiah Moore. Derek Strickland had 9 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
