Edinboro Hosts Local Rival Mercyhurst Saturday Afternoon

STORYLINE
The Edinboro women's basketball team hosts a Saturday matinee with Mercyhurst in McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots are coming off another significant win against No. 3 Gannon, defeating the Lady Knights 69-57 on Wednesday night. The Lakers are in the midst of a five-game losing streak. The Scots have clinched a spot in their fifth straight PSAC Tournament while the Lakers are looking to earn back-to-back PSAC Tournament berths for the first time under head coach Deanna Richard. Edinboro has won the last three games in a row in the series, including an 80-69 victory in Erie, Pa. earlier this season. The Fighting Scots are 17-5 overall and 11-1 in the PSAC West whereas the Lakers are 6-16 overall and 4-8 in the PSAC West. Edinboro was predicated to finish second in the conference entering the season and Mercyhurst was picked to finish seventh.

#11 Laurel Lindsay (G/F, 6-0, Jr.) - Lindsay has been playing great basketball as of late, averaging 14.2 ppg., 6.1 rpg., and 4.8 assists per game over the last ten games. The last time against Mercyhurst she led the Scots with a career-high 20 points.
#3 Darche' Jackson (G, 5-8, Sr.) - The newest and 28th member of the 1,000-point club, Jackson has not cracked double-digit scoring in the last three games. She has been taking care of the ball though, dishing out 26 assists with only five turnovers in the last three games.

#11 Adrienne Kloecker (G, 5-6, So.) - Kloecker leads Mercyhurst in scoring at 15.0 ppg., ranking 13th in the PSAC. The last time these two teams played, the sophomore game scored a game-high 24 points. In the Lakers current five-game winning streak, Kloecker is shooting 18-for-61 (29.5 percent) from the floor.
#22 Alayna White (F, 5-11, Sr.) - White was the leading scorer for Mercyhurst heading into the last game between these two teams. She is now second on the team with 13.3 ppg. and leads the team with 8.8 rpg.

A young Mercyhurst team seeks its second straight PSAC Tournament appearance. Head coach Deanna Richard's team has six freshman, and most see considerable action. The Lakers have struggled of late, losing five straight games to fall into a tie for sixth place with Clarion in the PSAC West with a 4-8 record. They are 6-16 overall. Mercyhurst ranks 16th in the PSAC in scoring offense at 63.9 ppg. while ranking eighth in scoring defense at 67.9 ppg. allowed. The Lakers rank second in the conference in rebounding margin at +6.0. They are also fifth in 3-point field percentage, holding opposing teams to a 30.6 percentage from downtown. Mercyhurst has struggled with turnovers this season, ranking 15th in the PSAC with a -4.4 turnover margin. Adrienne Kloecker leads the team in points and assists. The sophomore guard averages 15.0 ppg. and 3.1 assists per game. The local product from Villa Maria Academy also is second on the team with 5.5 rpg. and is second in the PSAC in minutes, playing an average of 34.8 minutes per game. Kloecker scored a game-high 24 points the last time the Lakers and Fighting Scots met. Alayna White is second on the team with 13.3 ppg. and first in rebounding at 8.8 rpg. The 5'11" forward is fourth in the conference in rebounding. Mariah Penascino has started 11 of the Lakers 22 games this year. The freshman guard is tied with Kloecker for the team lead in assists at 3.1 apg. She also contributes 4.8 ppg. and 4.0 rpg.

Last Meeting - Edinboro 80, Mercyhurst 69 (January 15, 2014)
The Fighting Scots won their sixth game in a row with an 80-69 victory against Mercyhurst the last time these two squared off. Up by two at halftime, Edinboro outscored the Lakers 45-36 in the final twenty minutes. Laurel Lindsay scored a career-high 20 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Valerie Majewski added 15 points and Aignee' Freeland had 14 points, 12 in the second half. Darche' Jackson also pitched in 14 points. The Fighting Scots shot 50.8 percent, one of six times they have shot over 50 percent this season. Adrienne Kloecker paced the way for the Lakers with a game-high 24 points. She also led the game with eight rebounds. Edinboro forced 18 Mercyhurst turnovers while turning it over just eight times.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Edinboro 69, No. 3 Gannon 57
Edinboro once again defeated highly-ranked Gannon on Wednesday night, handing the third-ranked team in Division II a 69-57 loss. The Fighting Scots stifling defense limited the Lady Knights to a 35.5 field goal percentage, the Lady Knights second-lowest mark of the season.  Gannon's 57 points was a season-low as was its 10.0 percent (2-for-20) 3-point percentage. The Fighting Scots held a 37-21 halftime advantage after leading by as many as 20 points in the first half. Darche' Jackson scored her 1,000th career point in the contest, becoming the 28th player in Fighting Scots history to do so. She finished with six points, seven assists, and five rebounds and sits at exactly 1,000 points. Valerie Majewski led all Scots with 17 points. Laurel Lindsay added 16 points while Lauren Hippo scored 14 points in her first start of the season. Aignee' Freeland neared a double-double with 13 points and eight rebounds.
 
Slippery Rock 70, Mercyhurst 63
Mercyhurst lost its fifth straight contest Wednesday night against Slippery Rock, 70-63. The Rock shot 54.3 percent from the floor (25-for-46), the second-highest figure against the Lakers this season (highest was Gannon in the previous game at 57.8 percent). The Lakers led 44-40 with 13:57 to play. Slippery Rock pieced together a 20-6 run to take a 60-50 lead with 5:01 to play. Mercyhurst received 37 bench points including a game-high 21 points from Katie Fischer. Alayna White added 14 points. The Laker's leading scorer, Adrienne Kloecker, shot 0-for-7 from the floor and finished with two points.
