Edinboro Looks To Clinch Top Spot In The PSAC West at Indiana (Pa.)

STORYLINE
The Fighting Scots are one win away from clinching the top spot in the PSAC West and face a Crimson Hawks team that clinched a PSAC Tournament berth Wednesday night. Edinboro has clinched a first round bye in the PSAC Tournament. The 'Boro has won eight games in a row in this longstanding rivalry including a 66-59 victory at home the first time these two met on January 22. The Scots enter at 19-5 overall and 13-1 in the PSAC West and are seeking their fourth straight 20-win season and tenth under coach Stan Swank. IUP is 16-8 overall and 7-7 in conference. Edinboro was picked to finish second entering the season while Indiana (Pa.) was predicated to finish in a tie for third with California (Pa.).

#3 Darche' Jackson (G, 5-8, Sr.) – Jackson has been efficient as of late, with 53 assists to just 10 turnovers in the last eight games. She is coming off a season-high 23 points at Slippery Rock.
 
#11 Laurel Lindsay (G/F, 5-11, Jr.) – Lindsay has been providing the Scots with a spark in a multitude of ways. Over the last six games, she is averaging 17.0 ppg., 5.8 rpg., and 4.7 apg. while scoring in double figures in each game.

#3 Lindsay Stamp (G, 5-10, Jr.) – Stamp is currently second in the PSAC with 18.5 ppg. She is also third in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (43.0 percent). The junior guard previously led the PSAC in scoring, but went three straight games without scoring in double-digits before missing six due to injury. She returned against Gannon last Saturday and led the Crimson Hawks with 18 points off the bench. On Wednesday she again led IUP with 16 points in a reserve role.
 
#12 Leslie Stapleton (G, 5-10, Jr.) – Stapleton has been back in the starting line-up with the recent injury to Stamp after finding success off the bench. She is second on the Crimson Hawks in scoring with 11.5 ppg.
 
SCOUTING INDIANA (PA.)

Tom McConnell has led Indiana (Pa.) in his first season to the PSAC Tournament. He has continued the recent success of a program that has gone to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments. IUP was ranked No. 20 in the nation after an 11-1 start but then went on a five-game losing streak. The Crimson Hawks have gone 5-2 since. They score 69.8 ppg. and allow 61.3 ppg., the latter ranking as second-best in the PSAC. Indiana (Pa.) has been great shooting and defending the 3-pointer this season. The Crimson Hawks are shooting at a 39.2 percentage, good for first in the conference. Defensively they allow opposing teams to convert only 30.1 percent of their 3-pointers which ranks fourth in the PSAC. The Crimson Hawks also hold a +5.4 rebounding margin, fourth-best in the conference. Lindsay Stamp returned for IUP in the last two games after missing six games due to injury. She is the team's leading scorer (18.5 ppg.) and rebounder (5.9 rpg.). The 5'10" junior guard from nearby Mercyhurst Prep is second in the PSAC in scoring and also third in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (43.0 percent). Leslie Stapleton is second on the team in scoring (11.5 ppg.) and is another deadly 3-point shooter. The 5'10" junior guard converts 40.0 percent of her 3-pointers which is sixth in the PSAC. Marita Mathe gives IUP a trio of outside shooters, as she averages 9.1 ppg. and makes 41.8 percent of her 3-pointers, good for fourth in the conference. She also leads the team with 2.9 assists per game. Ashley Stoner, a 6'1" junior, is third on the team in scoring (10.3 ppg.) and second in rebounding (5.7 rpg.).

Last Meeting - Edinboro 66, Indiana (Pa.) 59 (January 22, 2014)
Edinboro avoided a letdown following a victory against then No. 2 Gannon, defeating Indiana (Pa.) 66-59. Valerie Majewski led all scorers with 24 points while Aignee' Freeland recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds, adding a career-high four blocks. Majewski scored 15 points in the in the second half. The Crimson Hawks went on a 12-4 run to tie the game at 55-55. In the final three minutes, Edinboro outscored IUP 9-2, going 3-for-4 at the free throw line to ice the game with Majewski scoring five of those nine points. The Crimson Hawks shot 1-for-7 from the floor during that period. Lauren Hippo was the only other Fighting Scot to reach double-digits, scoring 10 points off the bench. The Crimson Hawks leading scorer Lindsay Stamp missed her first of what would be six straight games. Leslie Stapleton paced IUP with 16 points. Talen Watson added 13 points and five assists and Marita Mathe scored 11 points.

Edinboro 82, Slippery Rock 64

The Fighting Scots breezed by The Rock on Wednesday night, 82-64. Darche' Jackson paced the way with 23 points, 21 of which came in the first half on 8-for-12 shooting. She pushed her career total to 1,029 points putting her in 26th in school history. She also added six assists, five rebounds, and four steals. She moved into ninth place all-time in career assists (386) and tied Renee' Brown for sixth in career steals (239). Aignee' Freeland and Laurel Lindsay each had a double-double. Freeland finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds on 9-for-16 shooting. Lindsay had her second double-double of the year against The Rock with 18 points and a career-high 10 assists. Lauren Hippo added 16 points on 8-for-14 shooting. Edinboro dominated in the first half and led 50-27 at halftime. The Fighting Scots shot 20-for-33 from the floor (60.6 percent) and the 50 points at the break were a season-high for a first half. The Scots led by at least 20 points for all but the final nine seconds of the final half and built their lead to as much as 29 with 5:13 to play.
 
Indiana (Pa.) 83, Mercyhurst 63
Indiana (Pa.) clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament in a victory over Mercyhurst, 83-63. The Crimson Hawks led 46-24 at the break, scoring the first 12 points of the game. Lindsay Stamp paced IUP in scoring for the second straight game with 16 points. Five other Crimson Hawks scored in double-figures. Amy Fairman and Leslie Stapleton each had 14 points, Ashley Stoner and Zhane Brooks each provided 11 points, and Marita Mathe finished with 10 points and team-highs of nine rebounds and six assists.
