STORYLINEThe Edinboro women's basketball team concludes the regular season on Wednesday hosting Clarion. The Fighting Scots clinched the top spot in the PSAC Western Division and has Senior Night Wednesday when the Golden Eagles visit. Edinboro is ranked third in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Rankings and tied for 24th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Clarion is a win away from clinching a spot in the PSAC Tournament. If they lose, the Golden Eagles need Seton Hill and Mercyhurst to lose. The Fighting Scots clinched the number one seed after a 69-63 victory at Indiana (Pa.) last Saturday. The Golden Eagles defeated Mercyhurst 82-64 to keep their playoff hopes alive on Saturday. The Scots enter at 20-5 overall and 14-1 in the PSAC West while Clarion is 11-14 overall and 5-10 in the PSAC West. Edinboro was picked to finish second in the PSAC West entering the season while Clarion was slated to finish sixth.

Key PlayersEdinboro#3 Darche' Jackson (G, 5-8, Sr.) – Jackson was named the PSAC West Co-Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week this past week. She had a season-high 23 points at Slippery Rock and followed it with 17 at Indiana (Pa.). The senior guard had 12 points and seven assists at Clarion earlier this season.
#13 Aignee' Freeland (F/C, 6-3, So.) – Coming off a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds at Indiana (Pa.), Freeland faces a team she posted 28 points and 12 rebounds against earlier this season. The sophomore forward currently has three double-doubles in a row.
Clarion#34 Hannah Heeter (F, 6-1, Jr.) – The two-sport athlete (also a star volleyball player) is having another incredible season, averaging 13.7 ppg and 12.1 rpg. In her career against Edinboro, she has had a double-double in four of the five games. The junior forward averages 16.2 ppg and 14.6 rpg versus the Scots.
#3 Kelly Johnson (G, 5-8, Fr.) – Johnson tied her career-high in Clarion's last outing with 30 points versus Mercyhurst. Earlier this year versus Edinboro she had 14 points, five assists, and four steals.
SCOUTING CLARIONClarion is coached by Margaret "Gie" Parsons, who is in her 25th season and has 462 wins. The Golden Eagles have not had a winning season since 2009-10 and are seeking their second straight PSAC Tournament appearance. They are scoring 67.7 ppg. and allowing 71.9 ppg. Clarion has shot the ball well from the floor, hitting 42.4 percent of its shots which is good for fifth in the PSAC. Despite the presence of the top rebounder in the PSAC in Hannah Heeter, the Golden Eagles are 17th in rebounding margin at -4.6. Heeter is second on the team with 13.7 ppg. and is pulling down 12.1 rpg. That rebounding mark is tops in the PSAC. The 6'1" junior forward has posted a double-double in ten of the last 11 games. Against Edinboro, Heeter has averaged 16.2 ppg. and 14.6 rpg. and has a double-double in four of the five games. Kelly Johnson leads Clarion in scoring. The 5'8" freshman guard paces the way with 13.8 ppg. She also has 4.0 rpg. and 3.0 steals per game, the latter ranking as number one in the conference. Emma Fickel is third on the team with 12.3 ppg. The 5'8" senior guard is also averaging 3.1 rpg. Sophomore guard Tania Holmes leads the Golden Eagles with 3.5 assists per game, 13th in the PSAC. She adds 8.1 ppg.

Last Meeting - Edinboro 85, Clarion 67 (January 25, 2014)Edinboro defeated Clarion 85-67 earlier this year in the final win of the Scots' nine-game winning streak. It was the Fighting Scots eighth win in the last nine meetings between the two.
Aignee' Freeland had a dominant game in the first meeting with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Freeland shot 10-for-13 from the floor including 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Edinboro led 39-35 at halftime and opened the second half on a 13-0 run to take a 52-35 lead with 16:13 to play. Clarion would immediately go on an 8-0 run to bring the game to 52-43 with 14:41 remaining but could not get any closer. The Scots held their largest lead of 25 points at 83-58 with a 9-0 run that ended with 2:31 to go.

LAST TIME OUTEdinboro 69, Indiana (Pa.) 63The Fighting Scots had to rally from a 16-point second half deficit for a 69-63 win at Indiana (Pa.) last Saturday. The victory clinched the top seed in the PSAC West and improved their record to 20-5 overall and 14-1 in the Western Division. It gave the Scots their fourth straight 20-win season and tenth under coach
Stan Swank. IUP led 33-20 at halftime and pushed the lead to 36-20 to open the second half. Edinboro went in on a 13-2 run to close the gap to 38-33 with 15:20 to play. Edinboro would pull within one point on three different occasions and finally took a lead with 59 seconds remaining on a 3-pointer by
Valerie Majewski to go ahead 63-61. That was part of an 11-2 run to close out the game in which Majewski scored five of the points. The junior guard led the game with 18 points, all of which came in the second half.
Darche' Jackson had her fourth career double-double with 17 points and matched her career-high with 11 rebounds.
Laurel Lindsay finished with 16 points while
Aignee' Freeland had her 12th double-double of the season. Freeland had 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Clarion 82, Mercyhurst 64Clarion took a 40-26 halftime lead against Mercyhurst and did not look back en route to an 82-64 victory on Sunday. The Golden Eagles shot 50.0 percent from the floor, only the fourth time they have made at least half of their shots in a game (4-0 in such games). Kelly Johnson matched her career-high with 30 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the floor. Senior Emma Fickel added 22 points on Senior Day. Hannah Heeter had her tenth double-double in the last 11 games with 14 points and 16 rebounds playing all 40 minutes.
SENIOR CLASS HONOREDThe group consisting of
Katie Collins, Darche' Jackson, Laurel Lindsay, Hope Mancini, Morgyn Patterson, and
Meghyn Patterson will be honored on Wednesday night in their last regular season home game. The four-year group of Collins, Jackson, Mancini, and the Patterson's reached 95 career wins with the 69-57 victory at Gannon, setting a new record for wins by a four-year class. Their current record is 98-18. To go along with their 20-5 record this season, the seniors went 26-4 in 2010-11, 30-2 in 2011-12, and 22-7 last season. Last year's group of seniors, featuring
Kerry Connolly,
Kiara Brown, and
Samantha Blazetic, put together a record of 94-26 over their four years, the best four-year span for any graduating class previously. It should be noted that both Lindsay and Mancini have a year of eligibility remaining and could return in 2014-15.
Katie Collins - Appearing in 95 career games, Collins has posted a career-high across the board this year with 3.8 ppg. and 2.5 rpg. She has been a stellar defender throughout her career for the Scots.
Darche' Jackson - Jackson is currently ranked 25th in all-time scoring (1,046), ninth in assists (387), and tied for sixth in steals (239). In her final season, she has posted a career-high 14 assists in a game which was only two assists away from the single game record. This will be her 109th career game.
Laurel Lindsay - Lindsay has started all 84 games she has played in for Edinboro. She ranks 13th in Edinboro history in assists (307). The guard/forward is posting career-highs with 12.8 ppg., 5.2 rpg., and 4.4 assists per game.
Hope Mancini - Mancini was having a career-season with 12.2 ppg. and 2.2 assists per game before a foot injury interrupted her season in early January. Mancini's 40.8 3-point field goal percentage is currently the fourth-best mark in school history for a single-season. She scored a career-high 31 points versus Seton Hill.
Meghyn Patterson - Meghyn has played in 58 career games for the Scots. In 2011-12, she played a career-high 23 games while scoring 1.3 ppg. and 1.1 rpg., also career-highs.
Morgyn Patterson - The other Patterson twin, Morgyn, has played in 87 career games with seven starts, six of which have came this season. She is averaging 2.3 ppg. and 1.2 rpg. this season.
