Team Effort Leads to 65-53 Win At Seton Hill, Clinches Spot in PSAC Tournament

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) GREENSBURG, Pa. (February 5, 2014) – The Edinboro women's basketball team clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament with a 65-53 win at Seton Hill on Wednesday night. The victory improved the Fighting Scots record to 16-4 overall and 10-0 in the PSAC West while Seton Hill dropped to 12-9 and 4-7 in the PSAC West.

Edinboro had four players score in double-digits. Valerie Majewski led all with 16 points. Lauren Hippo added 13 points off the bench, her fourth game scoring in double-digits in the last five. Laurel Lindsay contributed 12 points and had six assists. Finally, Aignee' Freeland had her fifth straight double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

One of the players that did not reach double figures in points was Darche' Jackson, who had a career-high 14 assists, two shy of the school record set by Callie Iorfido in 2004-05 against Mercyhurst and Andre Martre versus Shawnee State in 1989-90. Jackson also added six points and six rebounds. She is now just 15 points shy of becoming the 28th member of the 1,000-point club in Edinboro history.

The Fighting Scots never trailed in the game. Leading 27-22 with 2:21 remaining in the first half, Edinboro went on a 9-0 run to close out the half, capped off by a Katie Collins jumper at the buzzer to lead 36-22 at the break. Seton Hill's 22 points at halftime were the lowest by a Scots opponent at the break this season.

Edinboro built its lead to as much as 16 with 13:26 to play in the game, leading 45-29.

After the Scots established their 16-point lead, the Griffins put together an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 45-37 with 10:02 to play. Kelly Brennan had six points during the run

Edinboro immediately responded with a 7-0 run to take a 52-37 lead with 8:31 to play. The Fighting Scots lead would not dwindle to less than 10 points the rest of the way.

Seton Hill was lead by Katie Gattuso and Paige Alviani in scoring with 16 points each. Gattuso pulled down 10 rebounds as well. Brennan was the only Griffins player off the bench to take a shot from the field and finished with seven points.

The 53 points scored by Seton Hill was second lowest point total against Edinboro this year. The lowest was Cheyney's 51 points on January 5.

The Fighting Scots shot 42.4 percent from the floor while limiting the Griffins to 35.6 percent. Edinboro also outscored Seton Hill in the paint 32-20.

Edinboro finished with 22 assists compared to 8 for Seton Hill. The Scots also took care of the ball better, turning the ball over eight times compared to 15 for the Griffins.

The Fighting Scots will return to action on Saturday, February 8 when they host California (Pa.). The game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. in McComb Fieldhouse
