Box Score (New/Sortable Format) Box Score (HTML)

GLENVILLE, W.Va. (March 15, 2014) - The saying goes that it's tough to beat a team three times in a season. What do they say about four times?  Laurel Lindsay scored a career-high 23 points despite missing a good portion of the first half with foul trouble, and Darche' Jackson added 22 points to lead No. 25 Edinboro to its fourth win of the season over No. 3 Gannon 77-69 in the semifinals of the Atlantic Regional at Glenville State's Lilly Gym.  The second-seeded Fighting Scots improved to 26-5 and will face the winner of the other semifinal between Glenville State and Bloomsburg on Monday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m.  Gannon's season comes to a close at 28-4 with all four losses coming to the Fighting Scots.

This was the second victory for the Fighting Scots over the Lady Knights in the last week. Edinboro defeated Gannon 86-76 in the PSAC Championship this past Sunday, March 9. The winner of the Atlantic Region heads to the Elite Eight which is hosted in Erie, Pa. by Gannon. The season-ending loss for the Lady Knights dashes their hopes of playing in their home city in the Elite Eight.

Jackson, Darche'
Darche' Jackson became the first player in school history with over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists, and 250 steals.
The game was a typical, back-and-forth Edinboro versus Gannon game until the Fighting Scots pieced together a 19-7 run to establish their largest lead of the game at 15 points with 5:05 remaining. Leading by only three points at 48-45, Lindsay hit a 3-pointer to spark the run at 10:14. Jackson followed almost a minute later, with a fast break layup to give the Scots a 53-45 lead with 9:11 left.

Gannon responded with a classic three-point play by Nettie Blake, as she was fouled on a made layup and made the subsequent free throw to cut it to 53-48 as 8:56 showed on the clock.

The Fighting Scots then scored the next seven points in a row to take a 60-48 lead with 7:23 remaining. Lindsay and Jackson combined for all seven points with Lindsay scoring five of them. The junior guard/forward scored four of those points from the free throw line.

After trading points on the next few possessions, Jackson capped off the run with another fast break layup at the 5:05 mark. Edinboro led 67-52.

The Lady Knights would chip away at the Fighting Scots lead, putting together a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to five points. Jen Papich scored five points during that stretch that left Gannon trailing just 68-63 with only 2:18 left to play.

Edinboro would not allow Gannon to get any closer in the game. The Scots went on a 5-0 run to extend the lead back to double-digits. Valerie Majewski hit three of four at the charity stripe to give the Scots a 75-65 lead with 29 seconds remaining. Edinboro would eventual go on to win 77-69.

The Fighting Scots trailed only once in the entire game. Gannon led for a short-lived 12 seconds, 30-29 with 18:43 left in the second half before Majewski hit a layup that would give the Scots the lead for the rest of the game.

Lindsay's career-high 23 points came via 7-for-10 shooting from the floor including 3-for-4 on 3-pointers. She added five rebounds. Lindsay had to sit in the first half due to foul trouble and scored 17 points in the second half.
Collins, Katie
Katie Collins tied a team-high with six first half points.
Katie Collins played an increased role in the first half due to Lindsay's fouls. The senior guard played nine minutes in the first half and scored six points during the opening frame. Collins only played one minute in the second half and did not register a point.

Jackson's 22 points neared her career-high as her 10 field goals was a career-high. She also reached that mark against West Chester in the PSAC Semifinals. The senior guard shot 10-for-17 in the game and also pulled down six rebounds. The six rebounds put her at 504 for her career, making her the first player in school history to over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists, and 250 steals.

Majewski was the only other player in double-figures for the Scots, finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists. The junior guard now has exactly 500 points this season, becoming the 20th Fighting Scot in school history to reach that mark. She made one 3-pointer, which puts her at 61 for the season, sixth most all-time.

The Lady Knights inside duo of Papich and Blake had strong games. Papich finished with 24 points and eight rebounds in her final collegiate game. Blake had double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams shot well in the game, as Edinboro shot 50.9 percent and Gannon shot 49.2 percent. The Fighting Scots held the edge on 3-pointers hitting 6 of 9 (66.7 percent) while the Lady Knights made 2 of 8 (25.0 percent).

Gannon outrebounded Edinboro 36-28. The Fighting Scots won the turnover battle 16-9. It was the third straight game the Scots had single-digits in the turnover column. Edinboro is riding a 10-game winning streak, fifth-longest in school history, and have committed fewer turnovers than the opposing team in all ten games.

Edinboro now awaits the winner of Glenville State and Bloomsburg to determine who they play in the Atlantic Regional Final. The game will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 17 in Lilly Gymnasium on the campus of host Glenville State.

Game Notes: Edinboro is now 9-0 when Lauren Hippo plays 30 minutes or more (she has started in all ten games of the Scots current winning streak)… The 'Boro is 21-0 this season when leading at halftime… The Fighting Scots are 13-1 when shooting more free throws than their opponent… The Scots 26 wins are tied for the third-most in school history for a single-season… Aignee' Freeland had a season-low two rebounds but it pushed her to 279 for the season, which ranks 13th in school history… Edinboro has now made 191 3-pointers this season, only three away from breaking the school record (193 by the 2001-02 team)
