Fighting Scots Edged by Shippensburg in PSAC Opener, 11-10

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (March 22, 2014) – The Edinboro lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 11-10 at Shippensburg in both teams' first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest of the 2014 campaign. The Fighting Scots drop to 3-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play, while the Raiders boost their record to 4-2 and 1-0 in the PSAC. Edinboro had won its first three games of the season for the first time in the program's five-year history.  

Alexa Healy's goal with 13:14 remaining in the contest knotted the game at nine apiece, before the Raiders scored two straight goals to take an 11-9 lead with just under six minutes to play.

Healy found the back of the net once again on an assist by Rebecca Martin, cutting the deficit to 11-10 with two minutes left in the game.

Healy gave the Fighting Scots one last chance with a shot  on goal with two seconds to play, but Shippensburg's Ally Frymoyer made the save to seal the win for the Raiders.

Jenny Wirth paced Edinboro with three goals, while Healy, Anny Purdy and Martin each netted two scores.  Cydney Hrycko added a goal for the Fighting Scots, as well.
Martin dished out three assists, followed by Healy and Hrycko with one assist each.

Shippensburg jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, before Wirth got the Fighting Scots on the board with her eighth goal of the season on an assist from Martin.

After the Raiders responded with two quick goals within the next three minutes of play, Martin cut the Shippensburg lead to 5-2 with a goal at the 14:57 mark of the first half.
The Raiders added two more goals to take a 7-2 lead with just under nine minutes to play in the opening period.

Edinboro rallied with four straight goals to close the half, including two from Purdy, one by Hrycko and Wirth's second score of the game to cut the Shippensburg advantage to 7-6 at the break.

The two teams traded goals to open the second half, with the Raiders striking first followed by Wirth's third goal of the game.

Shippensburg answered with a goal to gain a 9-7 lead with 17:45 to play in the game, before Martin found the back of the net for the second time on the day just a minute later to cut the Raider lead to 9-8.

Shippensburg earned a 27-22 advantage in shots on the day. Autumn Held made 13 saves in goal for the Fighting Scots.

Edinboro returns to action on Tuesday, March 25 in its first home contest of the year against nationally-ranked Lock Haven. The matchup with the no. 5 Lady Eagles is slated to begin at 4 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
