Box Score (New/Sortable Format) MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (March 29, 2014) – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team defeated Millersville Saturday afternoon 11-8. The Fighting Scots had five different players score two or more goals and were led by
Emily Peters' three goals. Edinboro improved to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC, the best start in program history, while the Marauders dropped to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The Fighting Scots scored the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 lead with 23:38 left in the first half. Millersville's Brooke Fisher responded quickly by scoring the Marauders first two goals of the game within the next two minutes to make it a 3-2 game with 21:54 remaining. Edinboro outscored Millersville 5-1 the remainder of the first half with four different players scoring to take an 8-3 lead into the break.
Anna Purdy opened the second half with her second goal of the game to continue the Scots run.
Alexa Healy scored her second of the game following a Millersville goal to give the Scots a 10-4 lead with 17:05 remaining.
The Marauders would go on a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 10-8 with 3:39 left. Peters capped off her hat trick by ending the Millersville run with an insurance goal at the 2:32 mark to give Edinboro the 11-8 victory.
Peters had her second career hat trick as the freshman also registered three goals earlier this season versus Coker. She now has six goals on the season.
Healy's two goals increase her total to 20 on the season.
Jenny Wirth and
Cydney Hrycko each added two goals, as well. They are second and third on the team in goals with 15 and 14, respectively.
Autumn Held started in net for the Fighting Scots and had eight saves in the game.
Edinboro held a slight edge in shots 24-23. Millersville won 14 draw controls to Edinboro's seven but the Marauders had 21 turnovers in the match while the Scots had just 17.
The Fighting Scots are now just one PSAC victory away from setting a program record for conference wins in a season. They will look to accomplish that feat on Tuesday afternoon when they host Indiana (Pa.). The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m
