Box Score (New/Sortable Format) SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (April 15, 2014) – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team nearly defeated Slippery Rock on the road Tuesday night eventually losing 9-7. The Fighting Scots were tied 4-4 at halftime following a stellar first half from goalkeeper Autuman Held. Edinboro stayed close in the second half but ultimately lost and fell to 7-6 overall and 3-6 in the PSAC. The win puts The Rock at 5-8 this season and 2-6 in conference.
The Fighting Scots held a lead early in the game. They went up 4-2 with 3:01 to play after Cydney Hyrcko,
, who scored the game-winner against Bloomsburg this past Saturday, scored with 17:56 showing on the clock to cut it to 7-5. Paige Costantino responded with a goal to put Slippery Rock up 8-5 with 15:09 left.
Anna Purdy and Olson would each find the back of the net to cut the deficit to 8-7. Purdy scored first with 14:23 on the clock and Olson tallied her second of the game with 10:40 to play. Hyrcko was credited with an assist on both goals.
Those were the last goals the Fighting Scots would score. Slippery Rock added an extra with 8:24 remaining. Jess Verbic scored the last goal of the game to make it 9-7.
Held finished the game with 12 saves and nine goals allowed. She also led the Scots with four ground balls.
Hrycko and Olson each led the team with two goals. Hrycko's two assists also led the team and tied her with a game-high four points.
Morgan Pettit had a hat trick and one assist to lead The Rock.
Jordan Wagner played in net for Slippery Rock and had eight saves and seven goals allowed.
Edinboro was ultimately outshot 27-20. The Fighting Scots committed 33 fouls compared to The Rock's 19. That helped to lead to 13 free position shots for Slippery Rock although they only converted three of them.
The Fighting Scots will return home for a pair of PSAC games on Friday and Saturday. West Chester comes to Sox Harrison Stadium for a 3:00 p.m. game on April 18 while East Stroudsburg will be in town on April 19 for a 2:00 p.m. start
