Box Score (New/Sortable Format) EDINBORO, Pa. (April 5, 2014) - The Edinboro women's lacrosse team lost Saturday afternoon 12-5 to No. 14 Mercyhurst at home. The Fighting Scots could not overcome an 8-0 halftime deficit as their record falls to 6-4 overall and 2-4 in the PSAC. The Lakers won their eighth straight game and improve to 9-1 on the season and 5-0 in conference.
The Fighting Scots fell behind early as the Lakers tallied two goals in the first minute and 14 seconds. Becca Himes and Hannah Corton scored the goals at 29:25 and 28:46, respectively. Mercyhurst would finish the half the same way they started it. Carly Zimmerman scored the final goal of the half with nine seconds left to make it 8-0 going into the break.
Edinboro found life in the second half as
Rebecca Martin scored with 26:34 left to play to make it 8-1. The Lakers responded with a goal but
Rachel Olson and
Jenny Wirth scored the next two goals for the Scots to cut the lead to 9-3.
The two teams would trade goals the rest of the way with Mackenzie Jordan being the last to find the back of the net. Her goal came at 1:49 for the Lakers for the final score of 12-5.
Autumn Held played well in net for the Fighting Scots despite the loss. The sophomore goalkeeper had nine saves and also led the game with seven groundballs. Held is now 6-4 this season.
Martin was the only player to score twice for Edinboro. The sophomore attacker added two more points to her team-high 47 points.
Anna Purdy was the only Fighting Scot player to register an assist. The sophomore midfielder also had one goal.
Himes paced the game with six points finishing with two goals and four assists. The junior attacker now leads the PSAC with 61 points.
Jenna Schlagenhauf and Jordan were the only other players to score multiple times today and each had hat tricks for Mercyhurst.
Rebecca Muscella started in net for the Lakers and exited the game at halftime allowing zero goals and saving two shots. Kyra Maludy finished the game for Mercyhurst and had three saves and five goals allowed.
Mercyhurst doubled Edinboro's shooting output 30-15. The Lakers also won in draw controls 13-6 and were a perfect 13-for-13 in clears whereas the Fighting Scots finished 14-for-19. Mercyhurst also benefitted from eight free position shots. The Lakers scored on four of those free position opportunities.
Edinboro now hits the road after going 1-2 in its three-game home stand. The Scots play next Wednesday, April 9 at Seton Hill. The match begins at 4:00 p.m. in Greensburg, Pa.
