Edinboro Looks to Extend Winning Streak at Local Rivals Mercyhurst, Gannon

EDINBORO, Pa. (September 25, 2014) – The Edinboro volleyball team will make the short trek up I-79 to take on a pair of local PSAC rivals this weekend in Mercyhurst and Gannon. The Fighting Scots are currently riding a nine-match winning streak, their longest since winning 16 contests in a row during the 2010 campaign. Edinboro kicks off its PSAC Western Division schedule travelling to Mercyhurst on Friday night for a 7 p.m. start, before battling host Gannon on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
 
The Fighting Scots enter the weekend with an 11-2 overall record and a 4-0 mark in PSAC play.

Edinboro is coming off a PSAC Crossover weekend in which the Fighting Scots outscored PSAC Eastern Division opponents by a combined score of 12-1. During this nine-match winning streak, Edinboro has only surrendered three sets, outscoring opponents 27-3 in those wins.
 
Both the Lakers and Lady Knights also own 4-0 ledgers in the conference after sweeping their respective PSAC Crossover matches last weekend. Mercyhurst comes into Friday's match with a 9-2 overall record, while Gannon sports a perfect 11-0 mark.
 
The three Erie County teams feature three of the top attack units in the PSAC.
 
Edinboro paces the conference with 585 kills, while Gannon leads the league with a .274 hitting percentage, followed by Mercyhurst with a .261 hitting percentage. The Lady Knights average a conference-high 14.72 kills per set, Mercyhurst sits second with 13.44 kills per set and the Fighting Scots fourth with 13.0 kills per set.  
Edinboro paces the PSAC with 108 total service aces, while Mercyhurst ranks third with 82 service aces and Gannon fourth with 76 service aces.
 
The Fighting Scots are limiting opponents to conference-bests of a .065 hitting percentage, 7.93 kills per set and 7.33 assists per set. Edinboro also ranks second in the PSAC with 776 total digs.
 
Haley Marett paces Edinboro and ranks fourth in the conference with 220 total digs, while ranking fifth in the PSAC with 5.24 digs per set.
 
The Fighting Scots continue to feature a balanced attack led by Marah Maycock's 101 kills on the season. Jen Gruber ranks second on the team with 97 kills, Sydney Trathen has tallied 73 kills and Maria Concheck has recorded 72 kills in 2014.
 
Challen Litwiler is tied for the top figure in the PSAC with 27 service aces, while Trathen's team-high 302 assists rank seventh in the conference. Concheck leads Edinboro with 43 total blocks, followed by Latoya Hutchinson with 24 total blocks.
 
Mercyhurst's Sarah Wegryzyn leads the PSAC with 3.74 kills per set and Gannon's Hannah Kren ranks third in the conference at 3.55 kills per set.
 
Following this pair of matches this weekend, Edinboro returns home to take on Slippery Rock on Tuesday, September 30 at 7 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse.
