(October 2, 2015) – The Edinboro volleyball team improved to 15-2 overall and 4-1 in PSAC West action with an impressive 3-1 win over PSAC West preseason favorite Clarion on Friday night at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots coasted in the first game, 25-12, but the next three sets were hotly-contested, with two requiring extra points. Clarion won game two, 27-25, with Edinboro by scores of 25-23 and 29-27 in games three and four.
Clarion is now a deceiving 8-8 overall and 4-1 in league play. The Golden Eagles lost their first seven matches against stiff competition, before running off eight straight wins. That included a five-game win over Juniata, the top-ranked team in Division III, on Tuesday.
In the third game, Edinboro rallied from 1 22-18 deficit to pull even at 22-22. With the score tied at 23-23,
Challen Litwiler had back-to-back kills to give Edinboro the victory.
The fourth game also featured back-and-forth scoring, with Clarion a point away from sending it into a fifth game at 27-26. Litwiler again recorded a pair of kills, and
Latoya Hutchinson's kill ended the match.
Litwiler enjoyed a big night, as the sophomore had 20 kills along with 19 kills and a pair of block assists. Hutchinson added 16 kills and a .481 hitting percentage, with 3 block assists.
Sydney Trathen had 48 assists, 3 service aces, and 4 total blocks, while
Marah Maycock contributed 14 digs and
Megan Screptock 10.
Victoria Severo had 3 block assists.
Edinboro has little time to enjoy the win, as the Fighting Scots are right back in action on Saturday, hosting Indiana(Pa.). that match gets underway at 3 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse.
