Fighting Scots Battle Lady Knights in McComb Fieldhouse Wednesday Night

GAME NOTES: Edinboro
GAME PROGRAM

STORYLINE
Edinboro and Gannon meet for the second time in 2014-15 with the Fighting Scots looking to even the score after a 76-70 loss at Gannon on January 10. Edinboro has dominated the series in recent years, winning nine of the last 11 meetings, and five straight at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots saw their three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday with a 75-48 loss at California (Pa.). Gannon comes in riding an eight-game streak after handing Mercyhurst a 59-49 defeat on Saturday.  The Lady Knights are one of three teams in the PSAC West to clinch PSAC Tournament berths. Edinboro can do so with a win over Gannon or a loss by Mercyhurst. These two teams know each other quite well, having met four times a year ago. The Fighting Scots would win all four meetings, including an 86-76 win in the PSAC Championship game and a 77-69 triumph in the Atlantic Regional semifinals. There will be plenty of talent on the court tonight, including three 1,000-point scorers in Laurel Lindsay, Nettie Blake and Brittany Batts, plus a pair approaching the plateau in Aignee' Freeland (957) and Mollie Sebald.

EDINBORO QUICK THREE
• Indiana(Pa.) is currently first in the PSAC West at 14-1, with Gannon and California(Pa.) tied for second at 14-2. The top two teams in each division receive a first round bye in the PSAC Tournament. At 11-5, Edinboro is currently in fourth place, three games behind Gannon and Cal. The third and fourth place teams host first round games. With six games remaining in the regular season, including contests with Gannon and IUP, the Fighting Scots still have an opportunity to finish in the top two. Edinboro has finished either first or second in the Western Division the last four years. The PSAC Final Four will be hosted by the highest remaining seed from the PSAC East. Currently, Bloomsburg is the top team in that division with a 16-2 overall record and 14-1 record in division.

Aignee' Freeland has shined in Edinboro's 13 wins this season. In Edinboro victories, Freeland shoots 88-for-156 (56.4 percent) and averages 14.6 ppg. and 8.3 rpg. The junior forward/center has shot 31-for-68 (45.6 percent) in losses while averaging 8.8 ppg. and 4.4 rpg. Her 23-point performance at California (Pa.) marked the first time in her career she has scored 20-or-more in three straight games. The 6'3" post player scored 20 points versus Seton Hill after finishing with 29 points at Pitt-Johnstown prior to that. It was the 13th time in Freeland's career she has scored 20-or-more points, the most among active Fighting Scots. Freeland is nearing 1,000 career points. The York, Pa. native has 957 career points, leaving her 43 points away from reaching that mark. In seven career games against Gannon, she has averaged 8.0 ppg. and 4.7 rpg.

• On Saturday, January 10 at Gannon with 5:50 remaining in the game, Laurel Lindsay became just the 29th player in Edinboro school history to reach 1,000 career points when she made the first of two free throw attempts. The graduate student guard/forward has since moved into 26th in school history with 1,057 career points. She trails Lori Dolby for 25th place by 20 points. Lindsay also ranks first in the PSAC and third in the nation in assists per game this year (7.1/gm). Lindsay is also on the verge of becoming the first player in school history with 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds, and 500 career assists. The graduate student guard/forward would be just the third player in PSAC history to do so. Lindsay needs just nine rebounds and 26 assists in order to reach that goal. She has gradually improved in her performances against Gannon. The graduate student guard/forward has scored in double figures in each of the last five games, averaging 16.4 ppg. In the previous four games, Lindsay averaged 5.5 ppg.
