(February 9, 2015) – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team rounded out the Edinboro CID Tournament with a 70-19 rout of Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne on Saturday evening, after falling by a score of 56-35 to Illinois earlier in the day. The Fighting Scots moved to 10-16 on the season with the split.
Edinboro 70, IPFW 19 Isaiah Moore led three Fighting Scots in double-figures with a game-high 17 points to go along with eight rebounds off the bench.
Mike Adams added 16 markers followed by
David Hix with 10 points for Edinboro.
Blake Rush pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, while
Derek Strickland tallied nine points and seven boards.
The Fighting Scots shot 54.3 percent in the first half, jumping out to a 39-12 lead at the break. After the Mastodons knocked down a jumper to cut the Edinboro lead to 18-7 with 9:29 to play in the opening period, the Fighting Scots responded with a 10-2 run to build their advantage to 28-9 at the 5:45 mark of the first half.
Ayuba Alli and Moore each scored four points during the surge. IPFW nailed a 3-pointer on the next possession to end the run, before Moore scored 11 unanswered points for Edinboro to give the Fighting Scots a 27-point halftime lead.
Edinboro would outscore the Mastodons 31-7 in the second half en route to the win. Holding a 53-16 lead with just over 13 minutes to play in the contest, the Fighting Scots went on a 12-0 run with baskets by
Redell King, Strickland, Adams and Rush.
Illinois 56, Edinboro 35 The Illini shot 52.0 percent for the game, including a sizzling 60.9 percent in the first half to earn a 56-35 win over the Fighting Scots at McComb Fieldhouse.
Adams paced the Fighting Scots with 16 points, while Strickland posted 10 points for Edinboro.
In the first half, Alli connected on a jumper at the 9:28 mark to cut the Illinois lead to 18-10 and end a 12-4 Illini run. Illinois would hold a 29-19 halftime advantage, before building its lead to as many as 23 points in the second half.
