(March 24, 2015) – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team was dealt its first loss of the season at the hands of high-powered Lock Haven on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 19-5 at Charlotte E. Smith Field in Lock Haven, Pa. The Bald Eagles, the reigning NCAA Division II runner-up, came into the contest ranked second in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division II Top 25. The Fighting Scots moved to 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in PSAC play, while Lock Haven improved to 4-0 and 2-0, respectively.
The Bald Eagles scored eight unanswered goals to start the game, before
Anna Purdy got Edinboro on the board with a goal on an assist by
Rebecca Martin to cut the Lock Haven lead to 8-1 with 1:39 to play in the opening half.
Just over a minute later,
Cydney Hrycko found the back of the net for the Fighting Scots to shrink the Bald Eagles' lead to 8-2.
Lock Haven would score once again before halftime to take a 9-2 advantage into the locker room.
The Bald Eagles added a pair of scores to open the half to gain an 11-2 lead, but Hrycko scored her second goal of the day for the Fighting Scots on another assist by Martin to minimize the deficit to 11-3 with 27:17 remaining in the contest.
Lock Haven answered with a score of its own to extend its advantage back to nine goals before
Alexa Healy found
Emily Peters for a goal with 19:41 showing on the clock to make the score 12-4.
After the Bald Eagles scored three straight goals to take a 15-4 lead,
Rachel Olson netted her sixth goal of the season to minimize the Lock Haven lead to 15-5 with 9:23 to play in the game.
The Bald Eagles would add four more scores en route to the victory.
Hrycko finished wait a pair of goals and Martin dished out two assists to pace the Fighting Scots.
Hannah Mong and
Samantha Tomasic each added two ground balls and two caused turnovers, respectively.
Rachel Ward scored a game-high five goals for Lock Haven, while Shannon Bissnette contributed eight assists to lead all players.
Paige Skinner made seven saves in net for Edinboro.
The Fighting Scots return to action Friday hosting Kutztown at 3 p.m.
