(March 8, 2015) – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team scored 14 goals in the first half en route to a 17-3 victory over host Newberry to open the 2015 campaign on Sunday afternoon. The Fighting Scots improved to 1-0, while the Wolves dropped to 0-5 on the season.
The Fighting Scots netted six unanswered goals to start the game, including a pair of scores from
Emily Peters. The sophomore got Edinboro on the board with a goal just 54 seconds into the contest on an assist by
Rebecca Martin.

Cydney Hrycko put the Fighting Scots ahead 2-0 with a goal on another feed by Martin.
Edinboro quickly gained a 4-0 advantage with scores from Anny Purdy and then Peters with 25:57 to play in the first half, before
Hannah Fitzgerald found the back of the net on a free position shot for her first career goal to give the Fighting Scots a 5-0 lead.
Alexa Healy pushed the advantage to 6-0 with a goal on another assist from Martin with just over 21 minutes to play in the half.
Newberry answered with a free position goal to cut the lead to 6-1, but Edinboro would score eight unanswered goals to take a 14-1 lead into halftime.
Purdy and Peters would add a pair of scores and Healy found the back of the net once again, while
Hannah Mong,
Rachel Olson and Martin also contributed a goal for the Fighting Scots in the first half.
Healy would add another goal to open scoring in the second half to give Edinboro a 15-1 lead with 18:10 showing on the clock. The Wolves closed the gap with a pair of scores to cut the Fighting Scots' advantage to 15-3, but Martin and
Haleigh Wright each chipped in a goal to seal the 17-3 victory for Edinboro.
Peters led all players with four goals to go along with three assists for the Fighting Scots. Purdy finished with three goals and two assists, while Healy had three scores and an assist. Martin had two goals and a game-high four assists for Edinboro.
Paige Skinner picked up the win in net for the Fighting Scots, making four saves and allowing two goals in her first career start for Edinboro.
The Fighting Scots return to action next Sunday, March 15 at West Virginia Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
