Wheelchair Basketball Drops a Pair of Games on Saturday Afternoon

WITCHITA, Kan. (January 16, 2016) – The Edinboro University wheelchair basketball dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Wichita State Tournament this afternoon. The Fighting Scots fell to Alabama in the first game of the day, 65-20, before also falling to Southwest Minnesota State, 54-48, in the final game of the day. Edinboro is now 7-13 this season.
 
Alabama 65, Edinboro 20
Seamus McNally led the Fighting Scots with 8 points on 4-of-6 shooting, but the team struggled to get anything going offensively in the contest, finishing just 23.8 percent (10-of-18) from the field. After the Fighting Scots took an early 4-2 lead, Alabama rolled to a 34-6 run to conclude the first half. It was more of the same in the second half as Alabama began the half on a 21-6 run and closed the game out at 65-20. Alabama shot an even 50.0 percent (29-of-58) from the field and held a 34-24 rebound advantage.
 
Southwest Minnesota State 54, Edinboro 48
The Edinboro offense came alive in the second game of the day as three Fighting Scots scored in double digits, but it was not enough as Southwest Minnesota State claimed a 54-48 victory. Ayuba Ali paced the Fighting Scots with 14 points and dished out six assists. Mike Adams added 13 points, while Derek Strickland totaled 11. Strickland also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Edinboro took a 27-23 lead into halftime, but were unable to withstand a second half surge by Southwest Minnesota State to the tune of 31 points. Southwest Minnesota State claimed the lead for good less than five minutes into the second half, using a 13-4 run to go up 38-31. The Fighting Scots cut the lead to just three points with 17 seconds remaining, but Southwest Minnesota State buried three free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory.
