Adams-Led Comeback Falls Just Short as Fighting Scots Fall to Southwest Minnesota State

EDINBORO, Pa. (March 11, 2016) – David Evjen recorded a triple-double to lead Southwest Minnesota State (15-18) past host Edinboro (10-23) and into Saturday's fifth-place game at the 39th annual NWBA National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. Edinboro, now 10-23, will play in the seventh-place game on Friday night.
 
Edinboro led just once at 8-6, before Southwest Minnesota State grabbed the lead for good on an Evjen layup. The Mustangs led 35-27 at the half and built the lead to as much as 15 points, the last at 53-38 with 12:23 remaining on Johnson's basket.

The Fighting Scots still trailed by 14 points at 58-44 with six minutes to play before rallying behind Mike Adams. Adams drained three straight 3-pointers as Edinboro would pull to within four points at 65-61 with 1:17 left. The Mustangs missed a pair of free throws, but Edinboro came down and misfired on a pair of shots, with Walter Johnson's layup with eight seconds left capping the victory.
 
Adams finished with 21 points, making 3-of-5 3-pointers. Derek Strickland had a team-high 11 rebounds and was one of four Fighting Scots with eight points. Edinboro shot 42.2 percent from the floor, with Southwest Minnesota State holding a 35-26 rebounding advantage.  The Scots forced 18 Mustangs' turnovers.
 
Evjen recorded 18 points, 19 rebounds and 14 assists as the Mustangs built a double-digit lead, then held off a late Edinboro rally. The Fighting Scots struggled with the trio of Evjen, Johnson, and Raymone Brown, who combined for 63 points. The Mustangs shot 68.9 percent from the floor (31-of-45), including 73.7 percent in the second half (14-of-19).
