Women's Lacrosse Heads East for PSAC Matches at Kutztown and East Stroudsburg

EDINBORO, Pa. (March 31, 2016) – Edinboro University women's lacrosse hits the road this weekend for a pair of PSAC contests, playing at Kutztown on Friday, April 1 at 2:00 p.m. and at East Stroudsburg on Saturday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. The Fighting Scots, after concluding a three-match stretch against ranked PSAC foes, enter the weekend at 5-4 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The Golden Bears are 5-5 with a 1-4 PSAC record, while the Warriors, who will play Seton Hill prior to their match with Edinboro, are 9-1 overall with a 4-1 PSAC mark.

The Fighting Scots' last three matches were against nationally-ranked opponents. They began with a 15-13 triumph over Seton Hill, ranked 18th by the IWLCA, but dropped their next two contests against sixth-ranked Lock Haven, 15-7, and seventh-ranked Mercyhurst, 12-9. The win over the Griffins marked the Boro's first-ever win versus a nationally-ranked opponent.

Senior attacker Rebecca Martin leads the Fighting Scots and tied for seventh in the conference with 41 points on 17 goals and 24 assists. She is sixth in the PSAC with 2.7 assists per game. Senior attacker Anna Purdy is second on the team and ninth in the PSAC with 38 points (20 goals, 18 assists), while junior midfielder Cydney Hrycko leads the Boro with 25 goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Paige Skinner is 4-4 in the net this season and tops the PSAC in save percentage (.550) and saves per game (9.78).

Kutztown enters Friday's match looking to end a five-match losing streak. After starting the season with five straight wins, the Golden Bears have lost five straight contests, including losses to Lock Haven, West Chester and Mercyhurst. They fell to Philadelphia, 11-6, on Tuesday. Edinboro has the last four matches against Kutztown.

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Gabriele leads the team and is tied with Martin for seventh in the PSAC with 41 points on 28 goals (seventh in PSAC) and 13 assists. Sophomore midfielder Lauren Huggins is second on the team with 37 points on 24 goals and 13 assists. Junior goalkeeper Abby Cox has a 1-5 record, owning a .408 save percentage.

East Stroudsburg comes into the weekend winners of its last five contests after a 12-11 defeat to Millersville on March 12. They were among others receiving votes in the latest IWLCA national poll. On Tuesday, the Warriors defeated sixth-ranked Lock Haven by an 8-7 score, ending the two-time defending PSAC champions and last year's NCAA Division II runners up's 27-match conference win streak. ESU has won the last three meetings with Edinboro.

The Warriors' big offensive threat is senior attacker Lauren Nunes, a third-team All-PSAC choice a year ago. She leads the PSAC with 64 points on 27 goals (eighth in PSAC) and a conference-high 37 assists. Senior attacker Kaitlyn Wiltraut (20 goals, six assists) and junior attacker Lauren Green (19 goals, seven assists) are tied for second with 26 points.
