EDINBORO, Pa. (April 22, 2016) – The Edinboro University women's lacrosse team caps a noteworthy 2016 season when they travel to take on seventh-ranked West Chester on Saturday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m. Edinboro, after defeating Gannon, 9-6, in their home finale on Wednesday, stands at 7-9 and 2-9 in the PSAC. The Golden Rams, who have won their last ten contests, come into Saturday's match at 15-1 with a 10-1 PSAC mark.
The Fighting Scots have made positive strides in their first season under head coach
Caitlin Formato. Their win against Gannon marked the program's first ever win over the Lady Knights, and tied the school record for season wins. Their other conference win, a 15-13 decision at 18th-ranked Seton Hill on March 23, earned the Fighting Scots their first ever win over a ranked opponent, as well as their first ever win against the Griffins. Saturday's contest features the fifth time that the Fighting Scots will play a PSAC opponent who is ranked nationally by the IWLCA. Edinboro is 6-4 on the year in road matches, while the Golden Rams are 8-0 at home.
Senior attacker
Anna Purdy leads Edinboro with 59 points on 37 goals and 22 assists, ranking third all-time in season points. She is second all-time in career points (158) and career assists (59), while ranking fourth all-time in career goals (99). Senior attacker and the Fighting Scots' all-time leading career scorer
Rebecca Martin is second with 54 points on 24 goals and 30 assists. She is tied for eighth in the PSAC with 1.88 assists per game. Martin ranks first all-time in career points (207) and career assists (132), while ranking seventh in career goals (75). Midfielder
Cydney Hrycko leads the Boro with 42 goals, and is second all-time with 102 career goals. She is tenth in the conference with 2.63 goals per game.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Paige Skinner collected ten saves against Gannon to improve to 6-8 in net. Skinner is first in the PSAC in saves per game (9.63) and second in saves percentage (.507).
West Chester recently concluded its road season with a 12-10 win at Seton Hill on April 16 and a 9-8 double-overtime victory at East Stroudsburg on Wednesday to run their winning streak to ten matches. Their lone loss this year came at the hands of Mercyhurst in a 9-8 overtime contest on March 19. The Golden Rams are 5-0 in the all-time series against Edinboro that dates back to 2011.
Junior attacker and last year's IWLCA All-South Region second team selection Ashley Pyle leads the Golden Rams with 85 points (52 goals, 33 assists). She ranks second in the PSAC in points per game (5.31) and third in goals per game (3.25). Last year's All-PSAC third-team selection Dina Cifelli and senior attacker Hannah Cowan are tied for second with 57 points. Sophomore goalie Paige Mitros tops the PSAC in goals against average (6.52) and ranks seventh in saves percentage (.448).
