RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil. (September 10, 2016) – The United States Men's Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball team notched its third win in as many games as they continued their hot start to the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, improving to 3-0 in the preliminary contests with a 93-44 victory over Iran. The 93 points is the third-highest output in a single game for the United States at the Paralympics.
Team USA had four scorers finish in double-figures, led by Brian Bell with 19. Matt Scott finished with 15 points, while Jake Williams and Michael Paye contributed 14 and 10, respectively. Steve Serio was a tremendous floor general for Team USA, dishing out 12 assists to go with his six points and six rebounds. Edinboro alum Trevon Jenifer finished with two points and also dished out four assists, grabbed a pair of boards and picked a pair of pockets.
The Americans jumped out to a 44-22 lead at half and built the lead to 77-27 after holding Iran to just five points in the third quarter.
Team USA was on fire from the floor shooting 61 percent (41-of-67) while Iran was 21-of-46 (46 percent). The Americans also held a 30-23 advantage on the glass, including an 11-6 margin on offensive rebounds.
Morteza Ebrahimi was the lone member of Iran to score in double-figures, finishing with 11 points. Omid Hadiazhar added 8 points.
Team USA will continue play in Rio on Sunday, September 11, meeting Algeria for the first time in the Paralympic games at 5 p.m.
