Wheelchair Basketball Wins All Three Games Friday to Open Wichita State Tournament

WICHITA, Kan. (January 14, 2017) – The Edinboro University wheelchair basketball team posted wins on Friday against Nebraska-Omaha, Southwest Minnesota State and Arizona State to finish a perfect 3-0 on day one of the Wichita State Tournament, hosted by Wichita State University. The Fighting Scots edged the Mavericks, 46-45, defeated the Mustangs, 57-42, and won by a 48-38 decision over the Sun Devils. Edinboro looks to continue its dominance on Saturday, starting with a contest versus Wisconsin-Whitewater, the defending NWBA Intercollegiate Division champions.
 
EDINBORO 46, NEBRASKA-OMAHA 45
While Nebraska-Omaha had three players in double figures, including a game-high 20 points from Brent Regier, Edinboro held the rest of the Mavericks to a combined four points. The Fighting Scots benefited from a double-double performance by Kevin Athlerley with 10 points and 15 rebounds and Chayse Wolf scoring 18 points off the bench. Edinboro led in rebounds, 39-34, including a 14-1 advantage in offensive boards.
 
EDINBORO 57, SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE 42
Kevin Atherley and Chayse Wolf, now both in the starting lineup, each turned in double-doubles for another solid performance. Wolf finished with a team-high 19 points with ten rebounds, while Atherley registered 18 points with 14 rebounds. Walter Johnson had 32 of the Mustang's 42 points, but the Fighting Scots held the rest of the team to ten points combined.
 
EDINBORO 48, ARIZONA STATE 38
The Fighting Scots used a team effort and gritty defense to ice the Sun Devils. Edinboro forced Arizona State into 16 turnovers, while they turned it over just eight times. The Fighting Scots held a 34-25 edge in the rebounding battle, with Kevin Atherley and Chayse Wolf each grabbing a team-high nine boards. Alex Saleh had a team-high 16 points with five rebounds, shooting 8-of-14 from the floor. Ayuba Alli had 14 points with seven boards and seven assists.
