Fighting Scots Claim Boro Shootout Title For First Time in Six Years With 40-39 Win Over Cleveland

EDINBORO, Pa. – Junior Chayse Wolf and Kevin Atherley record double-doubles as the Edinboro wheelchair basketball team wins the 2017 Boro Shootout 40-39 over Cleveland. The Fighting Scots avenged a loss to Cleveland earlier in the tournament to claim the crown.

Earlier in the day, Edinboro picked up a 56-42 win over Toronto. Edinboro faced off against Toronto in the #2 vs. #3 matchup in the playoffs and came away with a 58-51 win and the right to face Cleveland in the championship.

Edinboro returns to action next weekend when they travel to the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament on Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18.
 
EDINBORO 56, TORONTO 42
The Fighting Scots used a 15-5 start to knock off the visitors from the north. Edinboro used tough defense to hold Toronto to just 30.2 pct. shooting for the game. The Fighting Scots meanwhile shot 26-of-50 from the floor (52 pct.). They also held a 30-23 edge in rounds for the game and forced 13 Toronto turnovers. Sophomore Chayse Wolf lead all scorers with 17 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double (nine rebounds). Junior Alex Saleh joined Wolf in double figures with 10 points. Atherley was one point and two rebounds away from his own double-double (nine points, eight rebounds). They also held a 38-27 rebounding edge and forced 15 turnovers while committing just nine. Graduate Student Ayuba Alli played 35 minutes in the game and brought down eight points and five rebounds.
 
EDINBORO 58, TORONTO 51
In the second game of the day between the two teams, Edinboro once again got the better hand of Toronto. The Fighting Scots used another fast start to pull away early and hold on for the win. Edinboro used their 8-0 start to lead 34-29 heading into halftime. The second half was much like the first with the Fighting Scots outscoring Toronto 24-22 to pick up the 58-51 win and the chance to play Cleveland in the finals. Edinboro scored 21 points off of 13 Toronto turnovers. Three Fighting Scots scored in double figures with Saleh leading the team with 16 points in 34 minutes of play. Alli and Wolf scored 15 and 10 points, respectively. Atherley had the game-high 14 rebounds and narrowly missing a double-double with nine points. Junior Will Speed pulled down seven rebounds while scoring eight points.

EDINBORO 40, CLEVELAND 39

Three different Fighting Scots scored in double figures as Edinboro wins their own tournament for the first time in six years. Edinboro led all but 1:11 of the game late in the second half. The Fighting Scots held Cleveland to 17-of-49 field goal pct. Edinboro had the edge in rebounds (30-25), assistant (14-11) and steals (7-4). Wolf scored his double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Atherley recorded his with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Alli narrowly missed a third Fighting Scot double-double with 11 points and eight assists. Wolf, Athlerley, Alli and Speed played every minute for Edinboro in the title game.
