The Game Story
  • Edinboro head coach Stan Swank could not have scripted a better starter to the season. Competing in the Conference Crossover at Millersville this past weekend, the Fighting Scots, opened the 2017-18 campaign, defeating 2017 national runner-up, Virginia Union, by an 89-79 count. The Fighting Scots never trailed against the Panthers, who entered the season ranked second in the WBCA Division II Preseason Top 25. On Sunday, Edinboro fell behind early to UVa-Wise, but a 21-0 run in the first half and stops on the defensive end, allowed for a 68-56 win.
  • After defeating two opponents with 20+ wins last year, the Fighting Scots return to McComb Fieldhouse for their straight matchup against an opponent who eclipsed 20-wins a season ago in Wheeling Jesuit.
  • The Cardinals enter Wednesday's contest splitting a twin bill over the weekend. They competed against PSAC foes Shippensburg and Kutztown at the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic at Shippensburg. They defeated the Raiders on Friday, 72-63, but lost in a close one against the Golden Bears, 59-55.
  • This is the third meeting all-time between Edinboro and Wheeling Jesuit, and the second meeting in just over a calendar year. • In last year's contest, the Fighting Scots held a 38-25 halftime lead, having connected on 46.9 percent of their shots (15-of-32). Edinboro would maintain a 49-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but Wheeling Jesuit outscored the Boro, 21-10 in a 63-59 affair.
  • The Fighting Scots were held to just 7-of-28 shooting in the second half, and were outscored on free throws (14-5) over the final 20 minutes of play.
  • Whitney Allen scored a career-high 11 points for Edinboro, and Ciara Rosten also tacked on 11 in her Fighting Scot debut. As a team, they led in rebounding 37-36, and collected more offensive rebounds, 18-11, than WJU.
  • Wheeling Jesuit redshirt junior Monica Burns led all players with 21 points on 6-of-12 from the floor. Chenelle Moore scored 14 points and grabbed eight boards, before fouling out.
