The Game Story
  • Edinboro comes into this weekend's PSAC crossover games with a 4-1 record. The Fighting Scots opened the season with four straight wins – all at McComb Fieldhouse – for the best start since the 2012-13 team opened the year with five straight wins.
  • The Fighting Scots lost for the first time on Tuesday night. Playing on the road for the first time, Edinboro suffered an 82-72 loss at Daemen. The Fighting Scots fell behind 15-0 and trailed by as much as 24 points at 70-46. They would pull to within eight points at 77-69 in the final minute.
  • Edinboro is ranked fourth in the latest D2SIDA Atlantic Region poll. The Fighting Scots were picked to finish eighth in the PSAC West in the coaches' preseason poll. They are currently 2-0 following wins over Millersville and Shippensburg. 
  • The Fighting Scots showcase three players capable of putting up big numbers. Jaymon Mason is Edinboro's third all-time leading scorer with 1,616 points. He broke out of an early-season slump in a big way at Daemen, notching his 14th career 30-point game with a season-high 32 points. He is averaging 16.8 ppg. Keshawn Liggins, a transfer from Idaho State, is averaging 21.0 ppg. and 10.4 rpg., both team highs The 6'5" senior has two 30-point efforts this season and has three double-doubles. Anthony Coleman, another newcomer by way of Cincinnati State CC, has scored 20-or-more points in three games, including 25 at Daemen. He is averaging 19.4 ppg.
  • Mansfield comes in with a 1-3 record after suffering an 86-80 loss in overtime to Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday. The Mountaineers are 1-1 in PSAC action, dropping a 66-60 decision at Seton Hill before coming back for an 81-67 victory over California(Pa.) the next day.
  • Lock Haven hosts Slippery Rock on Saturday before facing Edinboro on Sunday. The Bald Eagles enter the weekend with a 2-3 record, 1-1 in the PSAC East, and feature one of the most prolific scorers in the PSAC in Amir Hinton. A 6'5" redshirt sophomore, Hinton led the PSAC and ranked seventh in Division II in scoring at 24.4 ppg. He is currently averaging 23.2 ppg. LHU opened PSAC action with a 90-83 loss at then sixth-ranked Indiana(Pa.) before defeating Seton Hill, 68-63.

All-Time Series vs. Mansfield
  • Edinboro leads 21-15: The Fighting Scots have won five of the last six meetings with the Mounties. Mansfield snapped a five-game losing streak with a 66-64 win in 2014-15, but Edinboro prevailed in 2015-16, 88-75.  The all-time series dates back to the 1958-59 season.

  • Henri Wade-Chatman contributed 27 points, five assists, and four steals to lead the Fighting Scots, with Tommy Scales adding 18 points and seven rebounds.
  • Edinboro led 33-30 at the half despite shooting just 37.9 percent from the floor. Wade-Chatman made just 2-of-7 shots and had seven points at the half.
  • The senior guard warned up in the second half, scoring 20 points while making 5-of-8 3-pointers. A 10-3 run by the Fighting Scots broke a 40-40 tie, and Edinboro eventually built the lead to double digits at 60-50. Mansfield would cut the lead to four at 62-58 with 8:23 left in the game. But this would be as close as the Mountaineers would get, with Edinboro responding with a 12-3 run to take a 74-61 lead.
  • The Mounties would mount one final threat with a pair of 3-pointers by Gerisimos Koutoufas to draw within seven with 3:36 to play. But it would be all Edinboro from that point on, as Wade-Chatman and Sheldon Brogdon each added a 3-pointer.
  • The Fighting Scots outrebounded the Mountaineers, 42-29. After the cold first half, Edinboro shot 66.7 percent in the second half and ended the game at 52.5 percent.
  • Wade-Chatman finished the day shooting 9-for-17, making seven of 12 3-point attempts. Jaymon Mason scored 12 points with six assists.
  • Mansfield had six players in double digits, led by Matt Tamanosky with 14. Da'Quan Jones added 13 points, with Eric Lewis and Joe Marshall scoring 11 points apiece. Thomas had 10 points and 10 assists.

  • Henri Wade-Chatman matched his career high with 32 points and Jaymon Mason added 25 as Edinboro cooled of a hot Lock Haven team with the win at Thomas Fieldhouse. The Bald Eagles had won eight of their previous nine games.
  • Wade-Chatman made 12-of-22 field goals, including a 3-pointer, along with 7-of-9 free throws as he scored 20-or-more points for the fifth straight game. The senior guard added six assists, four rebounds and three steals while playing all 40 minutes.
  • Mason went 8-for-15 from the floor, including a 3-pointer, plus 8-of-9 at the line. The redshirt sophomore guard pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, as well.
  • The Fighting Scots received a big boost off the bench from Tommy Scales. Injured in the previous game, Scales came off the bench and contributed 12 points, nine rebounds, and four steals in 27 minutes. Art Cook joined Mason and Scales with nine rebounds as Edinboro held a 44-31 edge on the glass.
  • Edinboro never trailed in the game, but would have some anxious moments late in the contest. The Fighting Scots grabbed the lead for good with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half at 14-12. The lead would grow to 43-30 with 1:35 remaining in the half before the Fighting Scots took a 48-38 lead at the half. Edinboro's led by as much as 13 points twice in the second half, the last at 81-68 with 5:18 to play on Mason's 3-point play. Lock Haven responded with a 10-2 run to cut the margin to 83-78 with 1:28 to play.
  • The Fighting Scots would score the last four points of the game as the defense forced three Lock Haven misses.  Mason's jumper with just over a minute to play gave the Fighting Scots some breathing room, and Wade-Chatman iced the win with a pair of free throws.
  • Edinboro shot 50.8 percent from the floor (33-of-65), including 5-of-11 on 3-pointers. The Fighting Scots made 16-of-23 free throws. Lock Haven relied on the 3-pointer, making 10-of-20 shots from outside the arc, while shooting 41.5 percent for the game (27-of-65). The Bald Eagles made 14-of-19 free throws.
  • Lock Haven featured four players in double figures, led by Bootsie Walker and Al Blount with 14 apiece. Renninger added 11 points and Fulton 10.


The Head Coaches
Edinboro: Pat Cleary (Edinboro '99) -- 51-59, 5th Year

  • Pat Cleary was introduced as Edinboro's tenth head coach on March 26, 2013 after head coach Greg Walcavich announced his retirement. Cleary served as Walcavich's assistant coach for 14 years.
  • The 4-0 start prior to Tuesday's loss at Daemen was the best since Cleary took over as head coach. 
  • Cleary's first three teams improved each year since his appointment, with his 2015-16 team earning the third seed in the PSAC West Tournament with a 15-11 overall record and 14-8 league mark. A year ago the Fighting Scots came in at 8-18 overall and 6-16 in the PSAC West, with injuries forcing the Fighting Scots to suit up as few as seven players in February.
  • He guided Edinboro to the PSAC Tournament for the first time in 2014-15 with a 14-13 record, a four-game improvement over his first year, after being chosen to finish eighth in the PSAC West preseason poll. His first Boro squad finished 10-16 in 2013-14.
 Mansfield: Pat Zipfel, Cabrini '89 (18-39, 3rd year) 
  • Pat Zipfel was named the interim head coach of the Mountaineer men's basketball program prior to the start of the 2015-16 season, and then had the interim tag dropped a year ago.
  • Zipfel served as an assistant coach in the NBA for 15 years, including his last two years with the Chicago Bulls as the NBA Advance Scout responsible for opponent preparation along with game plan preparation and strategy. Prior to his stint with the Bulls, Zipfel spent four seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the same capacity. He also was a member of the coaching staff for the LA Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers.
  • Zipfel's first Mansfield team went 6-21. A year ago, the Mounties improved to 11-15. 

 Lock Haven: Mike Nestor, Shippensburg '99 (60-103, 7th year)
  • Mike Nestor enters his seventh season as the head coach of the LHU men's basketball program. Last year, he led the Bald Eagles to a 13-14 overall record and a berth in the PSAC playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. It was the first time LHU has made four consecutive playoff appearances since the 1986-87 to 1989-90 seasons.
  • The 2013-14 season, Nestor's third at the helm of The Haven program, marked one of the best season's in school history. Lock Haven went 17-10 and 10-6 in PSAC East play, earning a trip to the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2003. The 17 wins were the most for the Bald Eagles since winning 26 in 1990. Nestor was named the 2013-14 PSAC East Coach of the Year.
  • Prior to taking over at Lock Haven, Nestor was an assistant at Shippensburg from 2000-11. He helped Shippensburg post a 59-32 record in a three-season stretch in the mid-2000s (2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07) in which the program reached the PSAC playoffs each year and advanced to the NCAA tournament in 2006. He was a two-year captain at Shippensburg.

Scouting the Fighting Scots
  • Edinboro opened the season with four straight games at McComb Fieldhouse, concluding with a 70-66 come-from-behind win over Lake Erie last Saturday. The 4-0 start was the best since Pat Cleary took over as head coach. The Fighting Scots won their first five games in 2012-13 under Greg Walcavich. 
  • The Fighting Scots hit the highway for the first time 2017-18 on Tuesday, and also tasted defeat for the first time with an 82-72 serback at Daemen. The Wildcats scored the first 15 points of the game and never trailed in the game, although Edinboro would stage a furious rally yo pull to within eight points late in the contest after trailing by as much as 24 points in the second half.
  • The best thing to come out of Tuesday's loss was the return to form of Jaymon Mason. The senior guard had been mired in an early-season slump, shooting just under 33 percent. He came alive at Daemen with 32 points, dropping in 6-of-12 3-pointers while going 10-of-11 at the charity stripe. It was his 14th career 30-point game as he boosted his career point total to 1,616 points. 
  • Keshawn Liggins finished with a career-high 35 points against Lake Erie, giving him two 30-point games in his first four games as a Fighting Scot. He added a game-high 11 rebounds for his third straight double-double. Liggins was held in check at Daemen, as he failed to make a field goal until just under ten minutes remained. The transfer from Idaho State fell just shy of his fourth straight double-double, finishing with eight points and 12 rebounds. Liggins leads the team in scoring (21.0 ppg.) and rebounding (10.4 rpg.). 
  • Anthony Coleman is another threat to put up big numbers. A transfer from Cincinnati State CC, the 6'3" guard is averaging 19.4 ppg., with three games of 20-or-more points. Coleman had a career-high 30 points in an upset of Shippensburg, and dropped in 25 points at Daemen. He is Edinboro's top 3-point threat, making 17-of-34. That includes a 5-of-9 performance from beyond the arc on Tuesday. Coleman was named the PSAC West Co-Player of the Week following the wins over Millersville and Shippensburg.   
  • The Fighting Scots recently posted the biggest win in Cleary's four-plus seasons as head coach, an 88-86 triumph over eighth-ranked Shippensburg. Edinboro had previously upset 16th-ranked Indiana(Pa.), 79-77 in overtime, in 2014-15. The Scots opened the year with a 86-77 win over Thiel, then began PSAC play last weekend with a pair of crossover wins. Edinboro rallied from halftime deficits in both games, starting with an 85-74 win over Millersville, followed by the upset of Shippensburg.
  • Edinboro is ranked fourth in the latest D2SIDA Atlantic Region poll. Wheeling Jesuit is first, with Virginia State second and West Liberty third. West Chester rounds out the top five.
  • The Fighting Scots have had a player reach 30 points in four of the first five games, and it has been done by three different players. Keshawn Liggins opened the year with 34 points against Thiel. In game number three, Anthony Coleman dropped in 30 points in the upset win over Shippensburg. Liggins then scored 35 points vs. Lake Erie, and on Tuesday, Jaymon Mason had 32 points at Daemen.
Scouting the Mountaineers
  • Mansfield was picked to finish sixth in the PSAC East in the PSAC Coaches' Preseason Poll after finishing with an 11-15 record last year.
  • Head coach Pat Zipfel, a long-time assistant coach in the NBA, is in his third season at the helm of the Mountaineers. His second team improved by five wins over his first season. Mansfield enters the weekend with a 1-3 record, and is 1-1 in the PSAC East, after losing in overtime to Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday, 86-80. Jeremiah Worthem's tip-in off a missed free throw with seconds to go in regulation sent the game into overtime, but the Mountaineers were outscored, 14-8, in the extra session.
  • Mansfield opened the season with an 86-72 loss at Felician before opening PSAC play with a 66-60 loss at Seton Hill. The next day, the Mountaineers won, 81-67, at California(Pa.), before Wednesday's loss to Roberts Wesleyan.    
  • The Mountaineers showcase a pair of Division I transfers in Malik Carter (Delaware State) and Jeremiah Worthem (North Carolina Central). Carter, a 6'2" senior, averages 21.8 ppg. and 6.8 rpg. A year ago, he led the team in both scoring (18.2 ppg.) and rebounding (6.6 rpg.). Worthem redshirted a year ago after transferring to Mansfield. The 6'7", 220 lb. redshirt senior is averaging 18.0 ppg. and a team-high 11.5 rpg. Carter had 2-0 points and Worthem finished with 17 points and 13 boards vs. Roberts Wesleyan.
  • Forward Matt Tamanosky provides the Mountaineers with a third double figure scorer. The 6'5", 240 lb. senior averages 17.8 ppg. and 5.8 rpg. while shooting 66.7 percent from the floor. He was a second team All-PSAC East selection a year ago after averaging 17.8 points and 6.4 rebounds.
Scouting the Bald Eagles
  • Lock Haven enters its weekend set with Slippery Rock and Edinboro with a 2-3. Record. The Bald Eagles are 1-1 in PSAC action, suffering a 90-83 loss at Indian(Pa.), who was ranked sixth at the time. That was followed by a 68-63 win at Seton Hill.
  • Lock Haven is led by Amir Hinton, a 6'5 redshirt sophomore guard. A year ago, Hinton broke the LHU single season scoring record as he averaged 24.2 points per game. That mark led the PSAC and ranked seventh in Division II. His 642 total points broke the PSAC record for a freshman. Hinton was named the PSAC Freshman of the Year, as well as earning First Team All-PSAC honors. Hinton comes in averaging 23.2 ppg. and also leads the team with 6.0 rpg.
  • Ra'eese Hunt is also in double figures at 14.4 ppg. The 6'7", 230 lb. redshirt senior averaged 12.7 points a year ago.
  • Lock Haven was picked to finish fifth in the PSAC East Coaches' Preseason Poll.
