Edinboro Starts Missouri Tournament With Losses to Alabama, Wisconsin-Whitewater

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 1 | Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 2 COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team opened the Missouri Tournament on Friday falling to Alabama, 55-39 and Wisconsin-Whitewater, 58-35.

The Fighting Scots (6-7 overall) will resume tournament action tommorow, as they are set to face Auburn at 9 a.m. and Southwest Minnesota State at 1 p.m.

ALABAMA 55, EDINBORO 39
Chayse Wolf's lone field goal of the first-half gave Edinboro an early 2-0 lead just 40 seconds into the game. With the game tied at 2-2, Alabama would score its second basket of the contest, and led the rest of the way. The Fighting Scots came close to taking the lead over the Crimson Tide at various points within the opening half. Edinboro trailed by one point at  5-4, and 6-7, after the lone tie of the contest. They also trailed by single digits over the first 10 minutes, and with four minutes remaining in the half. Alabama held a 35-18 lead at halftime, as the Crimson Tide connected on half their shots (15-of-30), while holding Edinboro to 8-of-27(.296) from the floor. In the second half, both teams shot 10-of-26 from the floor, and Edinboro outscored Alabama 21-20 in the half, thanks to Ayuba Alli's 3-pointer. Kevin Atherley led the Fighting Scots in scoring and rebounds, as he collected a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Alli scored seven points and dished out seven assists. Wolf added six points, eight rebounds and six assists.

WISCONSIN-WHITEWATER 58, EDINBORO 35
Against Wisconsin-Whitewater, Edinboro kept the contest to within single digits for the majority of the opening half, but never held a lead on the day. With 12 minutes gone by, the Fighting Scots came to within two points at 13-11, but the Warhawks responded with an 8-0 run in just under two minutes. At the half, Edinboro trailed, 30-21. The Warhawks quickly increased their lead to double-digits with a minute gone by in the second half, and held a double figure lead for the remainder of the contest. Edinboro shot 10-of-30 (.333) in the opening half, and 26.9 percent for the game, while Wisconsin-Whitewater made nearly half their opening baskets (14-of-29). They ended the day making 46.5 percent of their shots (27-of-58) from the floor. This is the Warhawks second win over Edinboro this season, as they won previously at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament on November 17, 70-55. Alex Saleh led Edinboro with 14 points on 7-of-9 (.778) shooting. Atherly grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds, added six points, and had a game-high three steals. Alli went for seven points, five assists and four boards.
