COLUMBIA, Mo. – After suffering a pair of losses on Friday at the Missouri Tournament, the Edinboro wheelchair basketball team picked up a pair of wins to improve to 8-7 on the season. Head coach
Jim Glatch's Fighting Scots opened the day with a 43-33 win over Auburn, then came back in the afternoon to hand Southwest Minnesota State a 60-47 defeat.
Here's a wrapup of today's two games.
EDINBORO 43, AUBURN 33
The Fighting Scots used an impressive first half and a big effort from
Kevin Atherley to pick up the win over the Tigers. Edinboro led 30-14 at the half as the Fighting Scots shot 48.3 percent in the first half (14-of-29) while limiting Auburn to six baskets in 25 attempts. Edinboro would struggle from the floor in the second half, shooting 22.2 percent (6-of-27). The Scots took the lead for good thanks to a 12-0 run in the first half to go up 20-9.
Chayse Wolf had eight points and Atherley the other four in the run. The lead grew to as much as 20 points at 43-23 with 5:24 remaining before Auburn scored the final 10 points of the game. Atherley finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds, making 9-of-18 field goals. Wolfe added 16 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. The duo keyed a huge 41-27 advantage on the boards.
EDINBORO 60, SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE 47
The Fighting Scots found themselves trailing 31-26 at the half, but outscored USMT 34-16 over the final 20 minutes. Edinboro shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23 in the second half while holding Southwest Minnesota State to 20.0 percent (6-of-30). Leading 40-39 midway through the second half, Edinboro ran off 13 straight points over the next five minutes to take a 14-point lead at 53-39.
Chayse Wolf scored eight of the points, with
Kevin Atherley adding a pair of baskets. USMT would pull no closer than nine points the rest of the way. Wolfe scored a career-high 28 points to pace the Fighting Scots. The sophomore made 11-of-18 field goals, including 1-of-2 3-pointers, and was 5-of-7 at the line. He added nine rebounds. Atherley again dominated inside with 19 points and 18 rebounds, adding five assists.
Ayuba Alli added six points and seven assists.
