The Game Story
  • Edinboro (6-16, 4-14 PSAC West) looks to snap a five-game losing streak while keeping their slim PSAC playoff hopes alive at Gannon on Wednesday night. Gannon (16-7, 14-5 PSAC West) has won back-to-back games and 11 of their last 13 games and has clinched second place in the PSAC West.
  • Six teams qualify for the PSAC Tournament from each division, with the Fighting Scots' showing a 4-14 record in league play. They are four games behind Mercyhurst, Seton Hill and Slippery Rock, all with eight wins. Edinboro must win all four of its games and still get some help from those three teams, plus California(Pa.), who has six conference wins.
  • Head coach Pat Cleary has seen his roster reduced to as few as seven healthy players due to a string of injuries, which has resulted in a five-game losing streak. Edinboro, after playing on the road in five of its previous six contests, lost back-to-back home games against Seton Hill (61-56) and fourth-ranked Indiana(Pa.) (91-76). Mikael Anderson did return against IUP after missing the previous four games to give the Scots eight healthy players.
  • The Fighting Scots have been without starting center Jack Frank for 11 games, guard Malachy Onwudiegwu for 14 games, and guard Michael Sims the past eight contests. Add in Anderson's four games missed due to injuries, and the Fighting Scots have lost a total of 37 games to injuries.
  • Jaymon Mason, who has nine game with at least 30 points this season and 13 for his career, tallied the first 40-point game at Edinboro since 2001 with 40 points against Pitt-Johnstown recently. The 6'3" guard is eighth all-time at Edinboro in career scoring with 1,445 points. He needs two points to pass Billy Wade for seventh all-time. Mason leads the PSAC and ranks 11th in Division II in scoring at 23.2 ppg.

On TV/Radio

Last Meeting
1/11/17 – Gannon 80, Edinboro 69 at Edinboro BOX | RECAP
  • Jaymon Mason ended the night with a team-high 18 points, but the junior guard was hounded all night and made just 6-of-25 shots from the floor. He would add five rebounds and seven assists.
  • Mike Beck scored a season-high 17 points, making 6-of-10 field goals, including 5-of-7 3-pointers. Sheldon Brogdon was also in double figures with 10 points. Mikael Anderson and Jon Girvin paced Edinboro with seven rebounds apiece, while Andre Frederick blocked six shots.
  • Michael Sims gave the Fighting Scots a spark with nine points in just 11 minutes, but left the game with just over ten minutes remaining with an injury and has not played since.
  • The game was tied at 30-30 at the half, but Edinboro found itself trailing 59-49 midway through the second half. Two minutes later, the Gannon lead was down to one point at 61-60 on the strength of a 11-2 run. Brogdon's  jumper in the paint got the comeback started, with Mason hitting a 3-pointer, followed by a Beck trifecta, and capped by an old-fashioned 3-point play by Jon Girvin.
  • Unfortunately, that was as close as Edinboro would get. Gannon scored the next seven points to boost their lead to 68-60, and down the stretch the Fighting Scots were unable to pull down critical rebounds. Over the last seven minutes, Gannon pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
  • Gannon had three double-figure scorers. Matthew Dogan made 6-of-13 3-pointers on his way to a 26-point night, with Evan Phoenix adding 24 points and eight rebounds. Zay Jackson made 5-of-15 three's to total 19 points. Damon Miraud pulled down 22 rebounds, 11 on the offensive end, and Jimmy Berger totaled 11 assists.
  • Gannon came into the game ranked second in the PSAC and 18th in Division II in rebounding, and had a 50-33 rebounding advantage in the game. Edinboro battled on even terms in the first half, trailing just 23-21. Gannon finished the night with 25 offensive rebounds.
  • Edinboro ended the night shooting 41.0 percent from the floor (25-of-61), and was perfect from the free throw line. However, they went there just eight times. Gannon shot 40.6 percent (28-of-69), but after a cold first half shot 51.4 percent in the second half. The Golden Knights were 12-of-24 from the line.

Last Time Out
2/11/17 – #4 Indiana(Pa.) 91, Edinboro 76 at McComb Fieldhouse BOX | RECAP
  • It was Make-A-Wish Day at Edinboro. For head coach Pat Cleary, that wish did not come true as the Fighting Scots lost their fifth straight game.
  • Edinboro shot 53.6 percent from the floor (30-of-56), their second-highest figure this year. IUP came in at 46.7 percent (35-of-75), but made 11-of-33 3-pointers. The Crimson Hawks were a perfect 10-for-10 at the line, compared to 11-of-15 for the Scots, and held a 41-27 advantage on the boards. The Fighting Scots held IUP to just 40.5 percent from the floor (17-of-42) over the first twenty minutes, but the second half was a different story. The Crimson Hawks would shoot 54.5 percent in the second half (18-of-33).  Edinboro was even better at 59.3 percent (16-of-27).
  • Maceo Baston enjoyed another career-best effort, as the 6'5" swingman scored a game-high 24 points. He made 10-of-13 field goals and was 4-for-4 from the line. A week ago, Baston posted his previous career high of 22 points against Pitt-Johnstown.
  • Jaymon Mason added 17 points while playing all 40 minutes for the 11th straight game. The redshirt junior guard added five rebounds and seven assists. Sheldon Brogdon was also in double figures with 15 points, making 3-of-5 3-pointers.
  • After missing the last four games with an injury, Mikael Anderson returned to give the Fighting Scots eight healthy players. Anderson finished with six points and five rebounds in 20 minutes.
  • The contest went back and forth for most of the first half, with Edinboro taking their largest lead at 13-7 just under five minutes into the game. In all, there were four ties and seven lead changes. IUP broke the last tie at 34-34 with three minutes to play in the first half, as the Crimson Hawks scored nine straight points before Brogdon closed the half with a jumper to make it 43-36 at intermission.
  • Edinboro kept the contest close for the first five minutes of the half, trailing by just four at 49-45 with 16:09 to play. The lead was still just eight points at 58-50 at the 13:19 mark. IUP used an 8-0 run to put the game away. Anthony Glover started the run with a 3-pointer, with Jacobo Diaz adding two free throws. Diaz then capped the run with another three to make it 74-56 with 8:20 to play.
  • The Fighting Scots did have one last run in them, shaving the deficit from 19 points (83-64 with 4:29 to play) to ten points at 83-73 with 2:33 left. The nine straight points featured a pair of Baston layups, followed by a Mason basket. When Mike Beck hit a 3-pointer from the left corner, Edinboro was within ten points. IUP held Edinboro to just one more basket the rest of the way, while the Crimson Hawks made four straight free throws and both of their field goal attempts during that period

2/11/17 – Gannon 80, Clarion 60 at Clarion BOX | RECAP
  • Gannon took control of its road game at Clarion with a 13-2 run to close out the first half. That gave the Golden Knights a 40-24 lead at the intermission. That lead would grow to 20 points early in the second half and Clarion never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way as the lead eventually grew to 27 points at 62-35.
  • Four of Gannon's five starters reached double digits in scoring for the third consecutive game. Evan Phoenix recorded his sixth double-double with a career-high 25 points and 12 rebounds. Matthew Dogan followed with 14 points, while Jimmy Berger added 12 points and eight assists. Damon Miraud completed Gannon's group of double-digit scorers with 11 points and eight rebounds.
  • Gannon shot 56.9 percent (29-of-51) from the field and limited Clarion to 42.6 percent (20-47) from the floor. The Golden Knights more than doubled Clarion on the glass, 36-17. They held a 44-18 advantage in points in the paint and 20-4 difference in second-chance points.
