Fighting Scots Finish Illinois Tournament with 58-52 Overtime Win Over Southwest Minnesota State

Urbana-Champaign, Ill. (February 18, 2017) – The Edinboro University wheelchair basketball team concluded their trip at the University of Illinois Tournament Saturday with a 58-52 overtime win over Southwest Minnesota State. The Fighting Scots shut out the Mustangs in the extra period, with Kevin Atherley scoring all six of Edinboro's overtime points, as they improved to 11-10 on the year.
 
Edinboro played three games during the Friday portion of the tournament, including a 62-35 win over Arizona State Friday night. The Fighting Scots had fallen to Alabama, 48-37, and Illinois, 46-42, earlier in the day.
 
Atherley, who posted 34 points against Arizona State, followed up that performance with 28 points versus the Mustangs. He had 16 points in the first half as Edinboro held a 26-23 lead at halftime. Chayse Wolf turned in 14 points on the day, while Mike Adams finished with 10 markers.
 
Wolf's final basket gave the Fighting Scots a 52-50 lead with 32 seconds left in regulation, but the Mustangs' David Evjen sent the game to overtime on a bucket with two ticks to play in the second half. Athlerley made a pair of baskets to begin the extra frame, then converted on a pair of free throws to close out the scoring.
 
The Fighting Scots are back in action on Friday, February 24 when they begin play at the University of Alabama Tournament.
