The Edinboro University wheelchair basketball team split a pair of games on Saturday afternoon to conclude the two-day Alabama Collegiate Classic with a 4-4 mark and end their regular season 13-12 overall. Head coach
Jim Glatch's team opened the final day with a dominant 57-25 victory over Auburn before dropping a 70-57 decision to Texas Arlington.
The Fighting Scots jumped all over Auburn early and often, opening the contest on a 24-6 run before taking a 31-16 halftime lead. It was more of the same in the second half as Edinboro held Auburn to just nine points in the final 20 minutes and outscored their opponent, 25-9, in the second half.
Edinboro held Auburn to just 22.2 percent (4-of-18) shooting in the second half and 30.8 percent (12-of-39) for the game. The Fighting Scots shot 40.6 percent (26-of-64) for the game, including making 3-of-5 3-pointers.
Edinboro was led by the duo of
Mike Adams and
Ayuba Alli. Adams led all scorers with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting and dished out four assists, as well as picking up four steals. Alli finished with 14 points and a game-high nine assists.
Kevin Atherley led the Fighting Scots with 12 rebounds and six steals.
In the day's second contest, it was Edinboro that found themselves on the short end of a game-opening run as Texas Arlington jumped out to an early 19-10 lead and the Fighting Scots could never recover as Texas Arlington led from horn to horn.
Adams once again finished as the high-scorer, leading a quartet of Fighting Scots in double figures with 19 points.
Chayse Wolf added 16 points and nine rebounds. Alli finished with 11 points and nine assists. Atherley added 10 points, nine rebounds, and five steals.
The Fighting Scots had no answer for the high-powered Texas Arlington offense that finished the contest shooting 52.5 percent (31-of-59) from the field. The Fighting Scots also fell victim to 24 turnovers.Â
Edinboro returns to action on March 9, participating in the NIWBT National Championships.
