Wheelchair Basketball Splits a Pair of Contests on Opening Day of Boro Intercollegiate Tournament

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro University wheelchair basketball team split a pair of contests on Friday in the opening day of the Boro Intercollegiate Tournament. The Fighting Scots opened the day with a 51-44 win over the Canadian-U23 team before dropping a 49-38 decision to Wisconsin-Whitewater. Head coach Jim Glatch's team's record now stands at 9-5.  

Mike Adams enjoyed a big day in the win over the Canadian-U23 team, scoring a season-high 25 points. He made 11-of-20 shots from the floor, including 2-of-4 3-pointers, and was 1-of-5 at the line. In addition, he handed out seven assists.

Chayse Wolf was also in double figures with 16 points, going 7-for-12 from the floor and 2-for-2 at the line. He added six assists and five rebounds. Kevin Atherley added eight points and had a team-high 10 rebounds and five steals.

The Fighting Scots trailed 26-25 at the half before enjoying a big second half, outscoring the Canadians 26-18. Adams accounted for 18 of those 26 points. The Canadian-U23 team built their lead to four points at 29-25 early in the half, but Edinboro would run off the next 13 points. Atherley scored the first basket, with Adams accounting for the final 11 points.

In the nightcap, Edinboro suffered through a cold-shooting game, making just 15-of-63 shots (23.8 pct.) against Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Warhawks, meanwhile, came in at 53.8 percent (21-of-39). That included a 65.0 percent figure (13-of-20) in the first half. The end result was a 27-17 lead for UWW at the half. Edinboro was unable to pull any closer over the final twenty minutes.

Adams enjoyed another outstanding effort with 21 points, adding five assists. Atherley had nine points, 12 rebounds, and six steals, with Wolf chipping in seven markers.

Edinboro will return to action for three games on Saturday, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. contest against Missouri. The Fighting Scots will play Missouri twice on Saturday, followed by a meeting with Illinois.
