The Game Story
  • Edinboro (6-14, 4-12 PSAC West) returns home on Wednesday for a PSAC West matchup against Seton Hill (10-11, 7-10 PSAC West) at 7:30 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots look to even the season series after falling to the Griffins, 104-74, on January 3.
  • The Fighting Scots, who have played on the road in five of their last six contests, begin a two-game home stand Wednesday in hopes of ending a three-game losing streak. After defeats to Mercyhurst and California (Pa.), they fell at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday 100-85.
  • The Griffins are in sixth place in the PSAC West standings and currently hold the last spot in the Western Division for the PSAC Tournament. The Fighting Scots, who are in eighth place, look to strengthen their playoff chances with a win. Indiana (Pa.) and Gannon have already clinched PSAC Tournament spots in the West, with the remaining four spots still up for grabs.
  • Head coach Pat Cleary has suited up only seven players the last three games due to a string of injuries.
  • Jaymon Mason had a career-high 40 points against the Mountain Cats, becoming the first Fighting Scot to score 40 points in a game since Blake Johnson in 2001. Mason, who has nine 30-point games this season and 13 for his career, leads the PSAC and ranks eighth in NCAA Division II in scoring with 24.3 ppg.
  • Junior guard/forward Maceo Baston also had a career day Saturday, scoring a career-high 22 points with seven rebounds in just his third start at Edinboro.
  • Edinboro looks to contain the brother tandem of senior forward Noah Davis and freshman guard Nathan Davis, who lead the team in scoring at 17.5 ppg. and 12.4 ppg., respectively. Nathan Davis had a career-high 37 points against Edinboro in the last meeting, making 9-of-11 3-pointers.

  • Seton Hill shot 61.7 percent from the field (37-for-60), including 65.5 percent in the second half (19-for-29), and 14-for-20 from 3-point range. Edinboro shot 42.0 percent (29-for-69) from the floor and 8-for-22 from behind the arc.
  • Jaymon Mason scored a team-high 27 points with six assists and five rebounds. He scored 20 of his points in the first half. Sheldon Brogdon had 14 points with four boards, while Andre Frederick had 10 points with five rebounds. Mikael Anderson led the team with seven rebounds and tallied eight markers.
  • Edinboro's lone lead was at 2-0 with 19:26 in the first half. Seton Hill led at halftime, 47-39, and extended their lead to as much as 36 points in the second half.
  • The Griffins' Nathan Davis tallied a double-double with a career-high 37 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 12-for-18 from the field and 9-for-11 from 3-point range. Noah Davis, Nathan's older brother, added 18 points.

  • Jaymon Mason scored a career-high 40 points, marking the first 40-point game for a Fighting Scot since Blake Johnson in 2001. Maceo Baston, in his third career start for Edinboro, netted a career-high 22 points with a team-high seven rebounds.
  • Edinboro and Pitt-Johnstown each recorded season highs in shooting. The Fighting Scots shot 54.2 percent (32-for-59) from the floor, while the Mountain Cats finished at 66.1 percent (39-for-59), including 70.0 percent (21-for-30) in the second half.
  • UPJ made 17-of-30 3-pointers, while Edinboro shot 8-for-18 from behind the arc. Jake Laravie connected on 11-of-13 triples for the Mountain Cats on his way to 33 points.
 
2/4/17 – Seton Hill 71, Gannon 65 at Seton Hill University BOX | RECAP
  • Seton Hill trailed, 36-19, at halftime, but came back in the second half, shooting 60.7 (17-for-28) percent from the floor, while holding Gannon to 27.0 percent (10-for-37), to outscore the Golden Knights 52-29.
  • The Griffins took the lead, 55-54, on a Nathan Davis layup with 6:24 to go and never trailed after that.
  • Nathan Davis led all scorers with 28 points with 10 rebounds, while Noah Davis, Nathan's older brother, had 23 points. The two combined for 41 of Seton Hill's 52 second-half points.
 
The Head Coaches
Edinboro: Pat Cleary, Edinboro '99 (45-54, 4th Year)
  • Pat Cleary was introduced as Edinboro's tenth head coach on March 26, 2013 after head coach Greg Walcavich announced his retirement. Cleary served as Walcavich's assistant coach for 14 years.
  • Cleary's teams have improved each year since his appointment, with his 2015-16 team earning the third seed in the PSAC West Tournament with a 15-11 overall record and 14-8 league mark.
  • He made the playoffs for the first time in 2014-15 with a 14-13 record, a four-game improvement over his first year, after being chosen to finish eighth in the PSAC West preseason poll. His first Boro squad finished 10-16 in 2013-14.
 
Seton Hill: Tony Morocco (187-190, 13th year)
  • Tony Morocco was named Seton Hill's first-ever men's basketball head coach in 2002, with their first season coming in 2003-04.
  • The team he built from scratch made the transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II in 2007-08, where Morocco's squad finished 15-11.
  • Morocco's Griffins joined the PSAC in 2013-14, making the league tournament in 2014 and 2016.
  • He previously held college coaching positions at Saint Francis, Iowa, Long Beach State, UNLV, Saint Vincent and Point Park. He has also coached professional teams including the Rockford Lightning of the Continental Basketball Association and Arecibo of the Puerto Rican Superior League.

  • Scored a career-high 40 points at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, becoming the first Fighting Scot to score 40 points in a game since Blake Johnson in 2001.
  • Has scored 30-or-more points in four of his last five games. Has nine 30-point games this season and 13 for his career.
  • Recorded three straight 30-point games for the first time in his career between January 18-25.
  • First in the PSAC and eighth in NCAA Division II in scoring at 24.3 ppg. Fifth in the PSAC in 3-point field goal percentage at 42.6 percent (58-for-136).

  • Edinboro has suited up just seven players the last three games due to injuries. Mikael Anderson has missed the last three games after suffering an injury at Slippery Rock on January 21. Michael Sims Jr. suffered an injury against Gannon on January 11 and has missed the last six games. Jack Frank has missed the last nine contests, while Malachy Onwudiegwu has missed the last 13 games.
  • Junior guard/forward Mike Beck has averaged 8.2 ppg. and 4.8 rpg. over the last nine games after scoring in double digits once in the first 11 games. He had a season-high 17 points against Gannon on January 11, matching his career high with five 3-pointers. He also had a season-high nine rebounds at Indiana (Pa.) on January 14.
  • Redshirt senior guard Sheldon Brogdon has started the last 12 games, the first starts of his career. Brogdon, who ranks third on the team in scoring at 10.8 ppg., has scored in double figures in 10 games and in nine of the last 13. He scored a career-high 31 points off the bench against Daemen on November 23 and netted 30 points in his first career start against Cheyney on December 10.
  • Redshirt junior forward Jon Girvin has started the last nine games, filling in for an injured Jack Frank. Girvin, who also plays on the football team, joined the team in early December. He started all 11 games at defensive end in 2016. Girvin tallied a career-high nine points against Mercyhurst on January 25 and gathered 11 rebounds in his second career game against Cheyney on December 10.
 
Scouting Seton Hill
  • Seton Hill rides into Edinboro on a two-game winning streak. The Griffins defeated Clarion last Wednesday, 79-76, and overcame a 17-point halftime deficit to beat Gannon, 71-65, on Saturday.
  • The Griffins currently hold the sixth and final spot in the Western Division for the PSAC Tournament. They are 2.5 games ahead of seventh-place California (Pa.) and 3.5 games ahead of eighth-place Edinboro.
  • The brother tandem of senior forward Noah Davis and freshman guard Nathan Davis are SHU's leading scorers at 17.5 ppg. (eighth in the PSAC) and 12.4 ppg., respectively.
  • The Davis brothers have posted career highs in previous meetings against Edinboro. Nathan Davis scored a career-high 37 points their last meeting on January 3, making 9-of-11 pointers, while Noah Davis, who has 1,180 career points, scored a then-career-high 33 points against the Fighting Scots on January 24, 2016. Noah Davis has averaged 21.2 ppg. in five previous meetings against Edinboro.
  • Redshirt junior center and 2016 PSAC West Defensive Player of the Year Spencer Casson leads the PSAC and ranks second in Division II with 4.2 blocked shots per game (88 blocks). The 6'8" center ranks fifth in the conference with 8.2 rpg. and is third on the team in scoring at 10.2 ppg. A year ago he led Division II with 95 blocks.
