Edinboro Opens PSAC Season on Tuesday in Home Opener Versus Slippery Rock

EDINBORO, Pa. (March 20, 2017) – The Edinboro University women's lacrosse team opens their PSAC season on Tuesday in their home debut against Slippery Rock. The Fighting Scots, who are 1-3 to start the year, look to hand SRU their first defeat after starting 4-0 and 1-0 in PSAC play.

The Fighting Scots, led by second-year head coach Caitlin Formato, will also look for their first-ever win over The Rock, who hold a 10-0 lead in the all-time series. Last year's meeting saw Edinboro drop a 10-7 decision at Slippery Rock in its PSAC season opener. The Fighting Scots finished 7-10 and 2-10 in the PSAC in 2016, while The Rock finished 9-8 and 5-7, respectively.

Edinboro played strong against some tough competition to begin the 2017 season. After a 13-11 defeat at Wheeling Jesuit in their season opener, the Fighting Scots embarked on a three-match spring break trip. The Boro took a 9-6 win at Shepherd on March 11, then fell in close contests to Wingate on March 15, 8-4, and Catawba, 10-8, on March 17.

Senior midfielder Emily Peters is Edinboro's leading scorer with 16 points on 15 goals and one assist and ranks fourth in the PSAC with 3.75 goals per game. Peters is fifth all-time at Edinboro with 99 career goals and sixth with 121 career points.

Junior goalkeeper Paige Skinner, who will be graduating in May, is 1-3 on the year with a 9.25 GAA and 47.9 save percentage. In just three years, Skinner has become Edinboro's all-time career saves leader with 335 and is one win away from tying the school career wins record with 14.

Skinner has been backed with a solid defense that has caused 32 turnovers and collected 80 ground balls. Senior defender Rachel Olson is the team leader in both categories with six caused turnovers and 14 ground balls. Olson also leads the Fighting Scots with eight draw controls. Junior defender Hannah Fitzgerald registered five caused turnovers and eight ground balls, while Haleigh Wright added 10 caused turnovers and four caused turnovers.
