Women’s Lacrosse Set for Three Matches Over Next Five Days

Plays Roberts Wesleyan Tuesday, followed by No. 19 IUP Thursday and Shippensburg at home Saturday

EDINBORO, Pa. (April 17, 2017) – The Edinboro University women's lacrosse team is set to embark on another three-match set in five days starting Tuesday, when they travel to face Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference contest at 4:00 p.m. The Fighting Scots will then square off at 19th-ranked Indiana (Pa.) on Thursday at 4:00 p.m., and return home to face Shippensburg on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. from Sox Harrison Stadium.

Head coach Caitlin Formato's team sits at 1-11 overall and 0-8 in the PSAC. Several of the Fighting Scots' last few matches have come down to the wire, with their last two contests decided by one goal. Edinboro held a 6-4 lead over Kutztown on April 8 with 10 minutes to play, only to see the Golden Bears rally late for an 8-7 defeat. The Fighting Scots then used some comeback magic of their own at Millersville on Saturday, overcoming a 6-1 first-half deficit to force overtime tied at 10-10. The Marauders went on to win the match in the extra session on a free-position goal.

Roberts Wesleyan, who competes in the East Coast Conference, is 6-9 overall. Redhawk Cassley Jackowski leads all NCAA Division II in points (107) and goals (77). Indiana (Pa.), ranked 19th in the latest IWLCA Division II poll, is 7-5 overall and 6-2 in the PSAC. The Crimson Hawks have a Tuesday match against Mercyhurst before playing Edinboro. Shippensburg is 6-7 overall with a 2-7 league record, and have lost its last four matches. The Raiders are set play 12th-ranked West Chester on Tuesday.

Senior midfielder Emily Peters leads the Scots with a career-high 39 points on 37 goals and two assists. Peters has scored four goals in each of Edinboro's last three contests, including the game-tying goal at Millersville to send the match to overtime. The native of Clarence Center, N.Y. needs four more scores to pass Shannon Rohrich to become the school's all-time career goals leader. She is second all-time at Edinboro with 121 career scores and third all-time with 144 career points.

Fellow senior Rachel Olson is second on the team with 19 points, tallying nine goals with a team-high 10 assists. Newcomers Elysia Garland and Olivia Potts have become solid scoring contributors for the Boro, with Garland ranking second on the team with 14 goals and third with 17 points. Potts has 14 points and ranks second with nine assists.

Goalkeeper Paige Skinner has played every minute in net for Edinboro this year, ranking second in the PSAC with 10.7 saves per game and fifth with a 47.8 save percentage. The junior, who is set to graduate early in May, has posted at least 10 saves in seven matches this year, including 17 at Bloomsburg, which is second-most ever by an Edinboro goalie.
