Women’s Lacrosse Prepares for Three PSAC Matches in Five Days

Will Play at No. 10 Mercyhurst on Tuesday, Followed by Weekend Home Contests Against East Stroudsburg and Kutztown

EDINBORO, Pa. (April 3, 2017) – The Edinboro University women's lacrosse team prepares this week for three PSAC matches in a span of five days, all of which are set to take place in Erie County. The Fighting Scots begin this stretch on the road Tuesday at defending PSAC champion and 10th-ranked Mercyhurst at 4:00 p.m., followed by home matches against East Stroudsburg on Friday and Kutztown on Saturday. Both contests start at 2:00 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.

Head coach Caitlin Formato's team, who are 1-7 overall and 0-4 in PSAC action, look for their first conference win of the season. The Fighting Scots opened league play against Slippery Rock, Bloomsburg, Seton Hill and number-16 Lock Haven, all of whom are in the top eight of the PSAC standings, as of Monday. Several close matches included Edinboro's 11-10 loss to the Huskies coming down to the last minute, and while they fell to The Rock, 7-3, the Fighting Scots held then-unbeaten Slippery Rock to a season-low in goals. The Scots' lone win came in its second match of the season, a 9-6 victory at Shepherd, on March 11.

Mercyhurst, who is ranked 10th in the latest IWLCA Division II poll, is 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC. East Stroudsburg is 6-2 overall and 2-1 in league play, while Kutztown is 5-4 and 1-4, respectively. The Lakers and Warriors each feature a noteworthy offense. Mercyhurst is third in the PSAC with 14.3 goals per game, while ESU is fourth with 13.6 goals per game.

Senior midfielder Emily Peters leads Edinboro with 25 points on 24 goals and one assist, and ranks third in the PSAC with 3.0 goals per game. Ranked second all-time at Edinboro with 108 career goals, Peters needs 17 more goals to pass Shannon Rohrich for number one all-time. The native of Clarence Center, N.Y. is fifth all-time with 130 career points.

The Edinboro offense is backed this year by a pair of newcomers. Freshman midfielder Olivia Potts is second in scoring with 12 points on four goals and eight assists, while fellow freshman midfielder Elysia Garland is second with eight goals and fourth with nine points. Senior defender/midfielder Rachel Olson is third on the squad with 10 points on four goals and six assists.

Goalkeeper Paige Skinner has already turned in several strong performances, including tallying 17 saves at Bloomsburg, which is second-most ever by an Edinboro goalie in one match. Skinner also turned in 15 saves against Seton Hill. The junior goalie, who is set to graduate early in May, is 1-7 on the year with an 11.38 goals allowed average and 48.6 save percentage. She ranks first in the PSAC with 10.8 saves per game.

Several players of note on the opposition include Mercyhurst's Carly Zimmerman, who ranks second in the PSAC with 3.9 goals per game and fourth with 4.6 points per game. Kutztown's Sarah Gabriele is third in the conference in both goals per game (3.6) and points per game (4.7).
