Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 2 EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team suffered a pair of tough losses in the first day of the CID Tournament at McComb Fieldhouse. The two setbacks dropped the Fighting Scots to 10-11 on the season. The day began with a 44-41 loss to Illinois. In the nightcap, Edinboro suffered a 49-43 loss to Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The CID Tournament continues on Saturday at 12 noon, with Edinboro playing back-to-back contests at 12 noon and 2 p.m.

The Illini led 21-18 at the half, but baskets by
Will Speed and
Alex Saleh gave the Fighting Scots a 22-21 advantage early in the second half. Illinois would regain the lead thanks to a 7-0 run, taking a six-point lead at 34-28. Edinboro would never regain the lead, with the deficit remaining at two or four points for most of the game. Trailing by four at 42-38 with 3:50 left, a Saleh layup made it 42-20, and
Kevin Atherley would make one of two free throws to pull the Scots to 42-41 with 1:08 to play. Illinois would miss on their next possession, but Chase Wolf's shot failed to fall with 31 seconds left. Spencer Heslop's layup with 10 seconds to play iced the win for the Illini. Edinboro turned the ball over just before the final buzzer. Wolf paced the Fighting Scots with 13 points and five assists. Atherley was also in double digits with 11 points, adding a team-high nine rebounds, plus four assists and five steals. Heslop led Illinois with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Edinboro shot 48.7 percent from the floor (19-of-39), but went just 3-for-12 at the line. Illinois made 20-of-44 field goals (45.5 pct.) and 1-of-2 free throws. The Illini had a 29-23 rebounding advantage. Edinboro committed 16 turnovers and Illinois 17.
WISCONSIN-WHITEWATER 49, EDINBORO 43
Game two on the day was another close affair, with neither team being able to build a sizeable lead. Wisconsin-Whitewater built its largest lead at 26-19 at halftime, as the Fighting Scots shot 32.1 percent (9-of-28) over the first 20 minutes, going 0-for-5 at the line, as well. Edinboro warmed up in the second half, shooting 42.9 percent (12-of-28), but the Warhawks were even better at 56.3 percent (9-of-16). In addition the Scots were hampered by foul trouble, including losing
Kevin Atherley to fouls with four minutes left in the contest. Edinboro pulled to within two at 45-43 with just under two minutes to play on
Ayuba Alli's bank shot, but the Warhawks scored the final four points of the game. Alli made 9-of-19 shots, including a 3-pointer, to finish with 19 points, adding four assists.
Chayse Wolf was also in double figures with 10 points, adding five rebounds and five assists. Atherley had eight points, seven rebounds, and four steals before fouling out. Edinboro the day shooting 37.5 percent (21-of-56), but missed all five free throw attempts. Wisconsin-Whitewater was 20-of-37 from the field (54.1 percent) and made 9-of-18 free throws. The Warhawks held a 39-30 advantage on the glass.
