Edinboro Wins Boro Shootout as Atherley Goes Over 1,000 Career Points

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 1 | Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 2 | Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 3 | Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 4 EDINBORO, Pa. – After winning three straight games by large margins on Saturday, the Edinboro wheelchair basketball team won four more games on Sunday to come away with the championship of the Boro Shootout at McComb Fieldhouse. Head coach Jim Glatch's squad is off to a fast 7-0 start, its best getaway in years. They won the first six games by an average of 33 points before holding off Charlottesville, 45-37, in the championship game.

The Fighting Scots turned in a balanced performance throughout the tournament, led by Kevin Atherley. The senior from Pikesville, Md. went over 1,000 points in his career on Sunday morning in the win over Rochester. He exploded in the championship game for 17 points and 22 rebounds.

Here's a look at Sunday's games:  

EDINBORO 58, LONDON 34
As was the case on Saturday, Edinboro jumped to a big half-time lead at 32-16 and coasted to the victory. The balanced attack featured four players in double figures, with Kevin Atherley, Chayse Wolf and Alex Saleh contributing 12 points apiece and Jacob Spillers 10. Wolf and Corrales DuPree pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds as Edinboro dominated the glass, 41-22. Atherley and Spillers added 7 rebounds. Seamus McNally finished with 8 assists and Spillers 5. After shooting over 50 percent from the floor in all three games on Saturday, Edinboro fell just short of that mark but still came in at 46.7 percent (28-of-60), while limiting London to 30.9 percent (17-of-55).

EDINBORO 61, ROCHESTER 20
After grabbing a 35-17 lead at the half, Edinboro dominated the second half by a 26-3 margin. A suffocating defensive effort limited Rochester to just one field goal in 16 attempts. Rochester did not score in the final 11 minutes, 51 seconds. Spillers led four players in double figures with 16 points, making 8-of-11 field goals. He added 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Saleh (12 points, 8 rebounds), Atherley (12 points, 6 rebounds), and Cor'Rales Dupree (12 points) were also in double digits. Wolf contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds.

EDINBORO 59, SPORTABLE 25

In a rematch of their opening game of the tournament, the Fighting Scots dominated Sportable, jumping out to a 20-point halftime lead at 34-14. Edinboro would shoot 46.7 percent from the floor (28-of-60) while holding Sportable to just 21.4 percent (12-of-56). They also won the battle of the boards, 40-28, behind Atherley's 10 rebounds. Atherley finished with a double-double, leading four players in double figures with 16 points. Spillers added 14 points and 6 rebounds, with Alex Saleh contributing 11 points. Wolf turned in his usual all-around performance with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists.

CHAMPIONSHIP
EDINBORO 45, CHARLOTTESVILLE 37

After winning each of their first six games by over 20 points, the Fighting Scots found themselves challenged in the championship game, but still came away with the Boro Shootout title. Edinboro led 26-14 at the half, and still led by 12 at 36-24 midway through the second half. Charlottesville pulled to within six on back-to-back baskets, but the Scots built the lead back up to 13, scoring the next seven points. Atherley accounted for the first five points on a pair of baskets and a free throw, with Spiller's hoop making it 43-30 with 4:29 remaining. Charlottesville scored the final five points of the game to pull to within single digits. Atherley turned in a monster performance with 17 points and 22 rebounds, adding 6 steals and 4 assists. Spillers had a game-high 18 points. Edinboro would shoot 38.2 percent from the floor (21-of-55), while Charlottesville finished at 33.3 percent (17-of-51). Edinboro held a 39-31 rebounding advantage.
