Fighting Scots Fall to Missouri, 52-35, in First Round of NIWBT

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) MARSHALL, Minn. – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team suffered a 52-35 loss to Missouri in the first round of the 41st National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Intercollegiate Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Fighting Scots, 17-17 following the setback, will now play a consolation contest at 11 a.m. on Friday. They will face the loser of the contest between number one seed Alabama and Auburn, the ninth seed.

The Fighting Scots came in as the fifth seed, their highest seed in a number of years, while facing the fourth-seeded Tigers. The contest was tied at 20-20 at halftime as Edinboro scored the final four points on baskets by Ayuba Alli and Seamus McNally. Missouri would dominate play in the second half, outscoring Edinboro, 32-15.

The contest was still tied at 26-26 six minutes into the second half before Missouri scored ten straight points to grab a 36-26 advantage with 10:26 to play. Kevin Atherley ended the string with a basket, but that was as close as Edinboro would get. The Tigers answered with six more points to complete a 16-2 run.

Edinboro shot 38.5 percent for the game (17-of-45), but made just 7-of-19 shots in the second half. The Fighting Scots missed all eight of their 3-point attempts and were 0-of-1 at the line. Mizzou shot 42.3 percent (22-of-52), was 0-of-1 on three's, and made 8-of-15 free throws. Turnovers hampered the Fighting Scots, as they finished wit
h 16 compared to five for the Tigers. Missouri held a 33-27 rebounding advantage.

Kevin Atherley led Edinboor with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Alli added eight points, and Chayse Wolf totaled four points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Sidney Attiogbe led Missouri with 18 points, and Marshall Lindsay added 15.
