Edinboro Captures Fifth Place at NIWBT with 62-47 Win over Southwest Minnesota State

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) MARSHALL, Minn. – Thanks to a fast start and strong performances by Kevin Atherley and Chayse Wolf, the Edinboro wheelchair basketball team captured fifth place at the 41st National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Intercollegiate Tournament on Friday evening. The Fighting Scots handed host Southwest Minnesota State a 62-47 defeat to finish the year with a 19-17 record.

Head coach Jim Glatch's team jumped out to a 28-18 halftime lead, ending the half on a 14-4 run after the first half featured six ties. Atherley scored back-to-back baskets to give Edinboro the lead for good, as he totaled six points in the stretch. Edinboro held Southwest Minnesota State to 6-of-23 shooting (26.1 pct.) in the first half.

Edinboro opened the second half to build the lead to 16 points at 34-16. Ayuba Alli scored the first basket, with Alex Saleh scoring the next two. The Mustangs would rally to pull to within five at 42-37 with just over ten minutes to play, but Edinboro answered with the next seven points to rebuild the lead to 12 points at 49-37.  

Edinboro shot 48.2 percent from the floor (27-of-56), making 8-of-13 free throws. They missed all five of their 3-point attempts. Southwest Minnesota State went 18-of-52 from the floor (34.6 pct.), making 1-of-9 3's and 10-of-17 free throws. Edinboro held a 37-24 advantage on the boards.  

Wolf flirted with a triple double with 18 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. He made 8-of-13 field goals and 2-of-2 free throws. Atherley added a double double with 16 points (6-of-11 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs) and 13 rebounds, with four assists. Saleh was also in double digits with 10 points.
