Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 2 EDINBORO, Pa. – Wisconsin-Whitewater's Dylan Fishbach made sure that the 2019 Edinboro Intercollegiate Tournament got off with a bang. Fishbach bombed away for 45 points on the strength of 15 3-pointers, to lead Wisconsin-Whitewater to a 78-66 victory over host Edinboro at Crawford Gym. The Fighting Scots came back to post a 58-47 win over Auburn in the evening.
Fishbach's big game was one of two milestones on the day. The other belonged to Edinboro's Chayse Wolf, who scored 16 points against Wisconsin-Whitewater to eclipse 1,000 career points. The junior's 1,000th career point came on a bank shot from the left wing with just under nine minutes remaining. With another 16-point performance against Auburn, he now has 1,019 career points. Kevin Atherley went over 1,000 career points earlier this season.
Edinboro (14-12) returns to the court on Saturday when they take on the Tigers of Missouri. Tip-off is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. inside Crawford Gym. The Fighting Scots will wrap up the Edinboro Intercollegiate Tournament at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday when they take on the Fighting Illini of Illinois.
WISCIONSIN-WHITEWATER 78, EDINBORO 66
Dylan Fishbach came out firing from 3-point range to lead the 78-66 to victory. The lefthander made 15-of-31 3-pointers on his way to 45 points. He missed his only two 2-point attempts. He had 12 3-pointers alone in the first half, accounting for 36 points as UWW jumped out to a 49-28 lead at the half. He made 12-of-16 3-pointers in the first half alone, twice making five attempts in a row. Edinboro jumped out to an early 14-5 lead before Fishbach caught fire with the first of his string of five trifectas in a row. The Fighting Scots would make a comeback in the second half. Trailing by 25 at 63-38 with 14:42 remaining, the Fighting Scots used a 16-2 run, including 13 straight points, to pull to within 11 points at 65-54 with 7:24 left to play. Chayse Wolf accounted for seven of the points, Seamus McNally five, and Cor'Rales Dupree four. The WarHawks answered with a 9-2 run to build the lead back up to 74-56 with just over four minutes remaining. Back came the Scots, closing to within eight at 74-66 thanks to a string of ten straight points on the strength of a pair of McNally 3-pointers. By that time only 1:46 remained and Edinboro was unable to complete the comeback. Wolf and McNally led four Scots in double figures with 16 points apiece. Wolf went over 1,000 career points and now has 1,003. He added eight rebounds and six assists. McNally made 4-of-6 3-pointers. Jacob Spillers added 15 points, while Kevin Atherley ended with 13 points and nine rebounds.
EDINBORO 58, AUBURN 47
Kevin Atherley recorded his 11th double-double of the season with a game-high 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Fighting Scots to a 58-47 win over Auburn. The Tigers led for 16:42 in the first half, but Jacob Spillers would tie the game up at 22-22 with 1:16 left in the half, and that was how the half ended. Auburn scored the first basket of the second half to go ahead, 24-22, but Atherley made one of his 12 baskets of the evening to tie the game for the third time. Back-to-back baskets by Chayse Wolf gave the Fighting Scots a two point lead at 31-29 at the 15:40 mark, and they would never trail after that. Edinboro would build the lead to as many as 14 points in the second half on two occasions, with the last being on a Wolf tip-in with just over two and a half minutes left to make it 56-42. Both Wolf and Spillers reached double-figure with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Wolfe added seven rebounds and eight assists.
