Jahn, Sallot Recipients of NCAA Division II Degree-Completion Awards

EDINBORO, Pa. – The NCAA has informed two Edinboro University student-athletes that they have been named recipients of the NCAA Division II Degree-Completion Award. Women's basketball player Michelle Jahn (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) and Abby Sallot (Erie, Pa./ Harbor Creek), a member of the softball team, have been selected by a national committee based on their academic performance, athletic achievement and involvement in campus and community activities.

Jahn is an Early Childhood & Special Education major with a 3.69 GPA. She is a starting guard on the Edinboro women's basketball team that has a 20-9 record and will play Virginia Union in the first round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional on Friday.

She will play in her 119th game on Friday, one shy of the school record of 120. She has started 106 games and ranks 12th in career scoring with 1,369 points, along with standing second in career 3-pointers made (252) and attempted (718). A second team All-PSAC West selection a year and the 2016 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, Jahn is currently averaging 10.8 ppg. with 56 3-pointers in 169 attempts.

Sallot is an infielder on the Edinboro softball team, which returned from its southern trip earlier this week. She has played in 55 career games and has five hits in 27 at bats along with 13 career runs and five stolen. She has played in seven games this year, going 1-for-6 at the plate with three runs and three stolen bases.

In the classroom, Sallot maintains a 3.27 GPA as Secondary Education – Math major with a minor in Special Education.

The NCAA established the Division II Degree Completion Award Program in 2001 to provide deserving student-athletes financial assistance for them to complete their first baccalaureate degree. Candidates will be students who have exhausted their athletics eligibility. To date, nearly $6 million has been given to approximately 1,400 deserving student-athletes. Of those student-athletes who have received the award since its inception, 90 percent have earned their undergraduate degree using this program.
