THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Edinboro leads 7-4

LAST MEETING
The Fighting Scots met Bloomsburg for the first time since 2013 a year ago, coming away with a 21-16 win on the road. Prior to that, the Huskies had won four of the last five meetings.

LAST YEAR'S GAME
Edinboro 21, Bloomsburg 16
The Fighting Scots picked up their second straight road win to start the 2018 campaign thanks to strong efforts on defense and special teams. Edinboro took the opening kickoff and drove 63 yards on five plays, with Andrew Tomko completing three passes to James Clark for 64 yards. The last 22 yards went for six points. Edinboro's passing game stalled after that, completing just four more passes. After Bloomsburg tied the game at 7-7, Ta'Nauz Gregory gave Edinboro the lead for good, taking the ensuing kickoff and bursting 90 yards for his third career kickoff return for a touchdown. After that, Edinboro rode the rushing of Walter Fletcher and the defense to the win. Fletcher gave the Fighting Scots a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter thanks to a one-yard TD run. The score was set up by the second of Trey Hall's two interceptions. Bloomsburg closed the gap to 21-10 at the half with a 28-yard field goal as time expired. The Huskies scored the only points of the second half on Erik Benjamin's second one-yard TD run with 6:21 remaining in the game. The two-point conversion pass failed. The Edinboro defense took care of the rest, as Zuril Hendrick halted one possession with an interception, and the game ended with a pair of sacks on the last drive.

LAST WEEK
#12 Grand Valley State 35, Edinboro 10

The Fighting Scots opened the 2019 season at one of Division II's powerhouses, and came away with a 35-10 loss in front of 14,552 fans. Edinboro was outgained 572 yards to 120, but the defense still gave a decent account for itself. The unit was done in by big plays but came up with three takeaways and accounted for Edinboro's only touchdown on a 46-yard interception return by DeAndre' Dowdell. That closed the gap to 21-10 early in the third quarter, but GVSU would score a touchdown in each of the final two quarters to pull away. Edinboro added a 38-yard field goal by redshirt freshman Vicente Arrigada. Andrew Tomko began his second year as the starting quarterback completing 13-of-32 passes for 107 yards.  Ta'Nauz Gregory caught 4 passes for 54 yards, and Jon Long had 4 catches for 44 yards. Edinboro could never establish a ground game, finishing with 13 yards on 20 rushes. Cornerback Joshua Boyd and linebacker Ryan Bischof finished with 11 tackles apiece.

Stonehill 33, Bloomsburg 14
Bloomsburg opened the season with a loss to Stonehill as the Skyhawks broke a 7-7 tie with 26 straight points. Qmac Quiteh's six-yard TD run knotted the score at 7-7 late in the first quarter. Stonehill answered with 17 points in the second quarter to take a 24-7 lead at the half, then added a field goal in the third quarter and a touchdown early in the fourth. Linebacker Aaron Trumino ended the run, returning an interception 13 yards for a Bloomsburg touchdown. Stonehill ran off 78 plays to just 44 for Bloomsburg, and controlled the ball for over 36 minutes. The Skyhawks finished with 466 total yards (290 passing, 176 rushing) while Bloomsburg mustered just 168 (116 rushing, 52 passing). Redshirt freshman quarterback Logan Leiby completed 12-of-20 passes, but for just 52 yards. He led the Huskies in rushing with 47 yards on nine carries. Alex Gooden added 40 yards on six carries. Michael Allen led the receivers with 4 catches for 23 yards. Defensively, the Huskies had tremendous games from Trumino and Alex Findura. Findura, a junior defensive end, posted a career-high 12 tackles, with two tackles for a loss and a pass breakup. Trumino had a career-high 10 tackles.

THE COACHES
Wayne Bradford (Salisbury St. '90) was named Edinboro's 15th head coach on March 29, 2017 and led Edinboro to a 7-4 record in his first season. That was followed by a 6-5 finish a year ago, giving Bradford a 13-10 record early in his third season. The 13 wins is tied for the most by an Edinboro head coach in his first two seasons. After serving as interim head coach in 2017, that tag was removed less than a week after the conclusion of the season. With his tenth win as head coach coming against East Stroudsburg last year, Bradford is the fastest coach to reach 10 wins at Edinboro. Bradford has worked under four different head coaches and was an assistant at Edinboro for 18 years before taking over as the interim head coach. He has spent a majority of his time as the Fighting Scots' defensive coordinator, although in 2019 he will move over to the offensive side to oversee the offense. Bradford has master-minded some brilliant defensive performances over the years in a day and age when offense has taken over. For instance, in 2011 the Fighting Scots ranked eighth in Division II in scoring defense (17.0 ppg.), 11th in pass efficiency defense, and 18th in total defense (292.6 ypg.). Edinboro gave up fewer than 20 points in seven of its 11 games. Two years ago, his Edinboro defense finished first in the PSAC and fourth in Division II?in tackles for losses, and second in the PSAC and sixth in the country in sacks. Edinboro finished the 2016 campaign with a 9-2 record, marking the fifth time an Edinboro team with Bradford on the staff tied the school record for victories (9). Three of Edinboro's teams during his tenure have reached the NCAA playoffs, including the 2009 team, which finished at 9-4 and reached the Super Region One?semifinals. All told, he has been a part of 118 wins.

Paul Darragh (Temple '85) was named head coach of Bloomsburg on December 6, 2013 after being appointed interim head coach in February, 2013. Overall, he is in his 23rd season with the Huskies in 2019 and his seventh as head coach. He has a 46-23 record as the head coach of the Huskies, including a 6-5 record a year ago and 7-4 in 2017. They have posted a winning record in each of his seven seasons as head coach.  With Darragh on the Huskies' staff, dating back to his first season as defensive coordinator in 1997, Bloomsburg has compiled an overall record of 180-63. The first two seasons of the Darragh Era will go down as two of the strongest in Huskies history. Darragh posted a 21-4 overall record, back-to-back PSAC East titles, two NCAA Playoff berths, and a PSAC Championship (2013) while being named PSAC East Coach of the Year in both 2013 and 2014.  Following the 2014 season, he was honored as the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Super Region One Coach of the Year. Darragh served as the Huskies' defensive coordinator for 16 years. He has also served as an assistant coach at Gannon and Indiana(Pa.).

He caught 50 passes for 796 yards and a league-high 10 TDs.
  • The Bloomsburg game will mark the first of ten straight games in Pennsylvania against PSAC teams to wrap up the season. Edinboro plays at East Stroudsburg in another PSAC crossover contest next Saturday, September 21 before beginning PSAC?West action hosting Cal U on Saturday, September 28.
