Fighting Scots Drop a Pair of Contests at Auburn Tournament

AUBURN, Ala. – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team dropped a pair of matches after a long trip to Alabama to compete in the Auburn Tournament. The Fighting Scots dropped a 48-40 decision to Alabama on Friday afternoon, then fell by a 48-39 count to Auburn on Friday night. They are now 5-15 on the season and will play two more contests on Saturday.

ALABAMA 48, EDINBORO 40
Chayse Wolf and Josiah Knight had big games for the Fighting Scots, but they were unable to rally after Alabama pulled away in the second half. Both teams would struggle with their shooting in the first half, as Alabama led 17-14 at intermission. Edinboro shot 26.1 percent (6-of-23) and Alabama was at 25.8 percent (8-of-31). Knight scored to start the second half to cut the deficit to 17-16, but the Crimson Tide went on a 14-2 run to grab a 31-18 lead. The Scots still trailed by 11 points at 47-36 with 2:32 remaining, but four straight points by Wolf closed the gap to seven points. Unfortunately, just 40 seconds remained and the Fighting Scots could get no closer. Wolf would finish the game with 22 points, making 7-of-15 field goals, including a 3-pointer, and going 7-of-9 at the line. He added eight rebounds and four assists. Knight had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Will Speed contributed six points and eight rebounds.

AUBURN 48, EDINBORO 39
The host Tigers pulled away with an 11-0 run in the second half. Auburn held a 26-25 lead at the half, and the lead was still just a point at 35-34 with 12:21 after a Josiah Knight basket. But the Fighting Scots would go over eight minutes without a point as Auburn built its lead to 46-34 with just under five minutes to play. A Knight basket and a 3-pointer by Chayse Wolf brought the Fighting Scots to within seven at 46-39 with 2:39 left to play, but they would not score again. Knight led Edinboro with 15 points, adding seven rebounds, Chase contributed 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Will Speed added six points, six rebounds, and five assists.
