Edinboro Looks for Win Number One in 2020 at Walsh

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team will look for win number one of the young season on Wednesday, February 19 when the Fighting Scots travel to Canton, Ohio to play Walsh. The match is set for 5:00 p.m. at Vasco Field and is the season opener for the Cavaliers. Edinboro opened the season this past Sunday with an 11-10 loss at Findlay.

The Fighting Scots narrowly missed upsetting Findlay, the preseason favorite in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. They held a 9-8 lead against the defending G-MAC champions, but the Oilers would score the winning goals with just under three minutes to play.

Now the Fighting Scots play at the team picked to finish third in the G-MAC preseason coaches' poll. Walsh posted a 13-5 record a year ago, qualifying for the G-MAC Tournament for the second straight year. The Cavaliers would lose to Findlay in the semifinals. Walsh defeated Edinboro, 11-8, at Sox Harrison Stadium last year.

Edinboro will rely once again on the scoring of Sophie DePalma and Hailey Dobbins. DePalma, a junior attacker, scored a career-high 5 goals against Findlay. She moved into 11^th place in career scoring with 78 points in the process.

Dobbins, the sister of standout midfielder Sidney Dobbins, was playing in her first match for the Fighting Scots after previously playing at SUNY Cortland. She contributed 3 goals and an assist.
Junior Kaitlyn Binotto made her first career start in goal. She finished with 5 saves.

Following the match at Walsh, Edinboro will host its home opener on Saturday, February 29 vs. West Virginia Wesleyan.
